Role Overview
The Application Scientist / Engineer will play a critical role in bridging customer requirements with advanced testing solutions. The role involves conducting application-based testing, supporting R&D activities, demonstrating and validating products, analysing materials and test data, and delivering technical expertise to customers and internal teams.
The ideal candidate should possess a strong technical foundation in materials science and tribology, along with excellent communication, analytical, and customer engagement skills.
Key Responsibilities
Customer & Application Engineering
- Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable instruments, testing methodologies, and application solutions based on technical problem statements.
- Conduct product demonstrations, technical presentations, and customer training programs on Ducom’s specialised product range.
- Support customers in understanding the value and application benefits of Ducom products, contributing to business development and customer success.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships while identifying opportunities for technical value creation through application engineering.
- Interface directly with customers regarding testing requirements, application development, and technical discussions.
Testing & Laboratory Operations
- Plan, execute, and implement application testing related to product performance, validation, and compliance with international standards.
- Prepare accurate, comprehensive, and timely test reports and technical documentation.
- Manage laboratory instruments and ensure minimal equipment downtime through proper maintenance and operational practices.
- Maintain high levels of accuracy, traceability, and documentation standards within laboratory operations.
- Lead and guide test engineers to ensure efficient execution of testing activities and customer deliverables.
Technical Documentation & Marketing Support
- Develop scientific reports, application notes, case studies, technical articles, and marketing collateral.
- Support lead generation and customer engagement activities through technical presentations, email campaigns, workshops, webinars, and conferences.
- Deliver technical talks and presentations at trade shows, customer events, workshops, and scientific conferences.
- Prepare manuscripts and technical content for scientific publications and industry outreach.
- Conduct periodic product performance reviews and contribute to brand visibility initiatives.
Cross-Functional Support & Training
- Provide technical support to sales, customer support, testing, and engineering teams for smooth project execution.
- Conduct technical training programs for customer support engineers, sales engineers, PTP & FTP engineers, and other internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain product qualification guides, installation procedures, and training content.
- Participate in Pre-Dispatch Inspection (PDI), product validation, installation support, and customer training activities.
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Qualification
- M.Tech or PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Tribology, Metallurgy, or related disciplines.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in tribology, materials testing, or research & development.
- Hands-on experience with material characterisation and scientific testing equipment is highly preferred.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong technical understanding of tribology, materials science, and experimental methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Proficiency in reading, analysing, and interpreting scientific, technical, and legal documents.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills for reports, publications, and business correspondence.
- Experience handling laboratory instruments and scientific testing equipment.
- Ability to independently conduct scientific investigations and application-based studies.
- Knowledge of material properties, performance analysis, and engineering applications.
Soft Skills
