Function : Business Development / Technical Sales
Reporting to : Lead – Pre-sales
Role Overview
The Application Engineer – C&I BESS will act as the techno-commercial bridge between customers, sales, and engineering teams, driving solution design, proposal development, and technical closure for Commercial & Industrial energy storage projects.
This role is critical in translating customer requirements into optimized, bankable, and competitive BESS solutions aligned with market needs such as peak shaving, demand charge reduction, solar integration, backup, and energy arbitrage.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Solution Design & Application Engineering
- Design C&I BESS solutions based on customer load profiles, tariff structures, and use cases
- Perform system sizing, configuration, and optimization (kWh, kW, duration, cycles)
- Develop use-case driven solutions: peak shaving, diesel replacement, solar + storage integration, time-of-day arbitrage, backup power
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams for system architecture (PCS, EMS, battery, SCADA)
2. Techno-Commercial Proposal Support
- Prepare technical proposals, datasheets, and system configurations
- Support sales team in RFQs / RFPs / tenders
- Develop costing inputs and solution BOQs in coordination with supply chain
- Work on LCOE / ROI / payback models for C&I customers
3. Customer Engagement & Pre-Sales
- Participate in customer meetings to understand requirements and present solutions
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies
- Support pilot projects and proof-of-concept deployments
4. Market & Product Feedback Loop
- Analyze competitor offerings, pricing benchmarks, and technical configurations
- Provide inputs for product improvements and new feature development
5. Internal Coordination
- Work closely with sales, product, engineering, and supply chain teams
- Ensure alignment between customer requirement, design, cost, and execution
Key Deliverables
- Optimized BESS system designs for C&I applications
- High-quality techno-commercial proposals
- Faster RFQ turnaround and higher conversion rates
- Strong technical closure support for sales deals
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Electrical Engineering / Power Systems / Energy Engineering
- 3–7 years of experience in BESS / Solar / Hybrid energy systems
- Strong understanding of battery technologies, PCS, EMS, and electrical systems
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Proficiency in Excel and simulation tools (PVsyst / Homer preferred)
- Ability to interpret load data and tariff structures
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills
