Role Description


An Application Chemist specializing in instrument sales and marketing acts as a technical bridge between the application laboratory and the sales team. They combine deep scientific knowledge (e.g., PSA, Gas Adsorption Analyzer, pycnometer, stability analyzer, etc.) with business acumen to support sales, demonstrate instrument capabilities, and provide post-sale application support.


This is a full-time, on-site role located in Hyderabad for an Application Chemist. The Application Chemist will work in the laboratory, conducting research and analysis related to coatings and polymers, as well as supporting research and development initiatives. Responsibilities include performing tests, developing application methods, providing technical support to clients, preparing reports, and collaborating with diverse teams to solve technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities


  • Pre-Sales Technical Support: Collaborate with the sales team to demonstrate instrument capabilities, conduct demo experiments, and provide technical presentations to potential customers at seminars or on-site.
  • Method Development & Optimization: Assist customers in developing, validating, and optimizing methods based on their specific sample matrices.
  • Post-Sale Application Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for application issues at customer sites.
  • Marketing & Promotion: Promote high-end instrumentation (e.g., PSA, BET, etc.) through application notes, technical papers, and collaboration with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
  • Training: Conduct training sessions for customers on the effective use of instruments and software.
  • Instrument Maintenance: Ensure lab instruments are properly calibrated, maintained, and operational.


Required Education & Skills


  • Education: B.Sc. or M.Sc., . in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related fields.
  • Experience: 3–7 years of experience, often requiring specific, hands-on experience with PSA, BET, or other chromatography/spectroscopy instrumentation.
  • Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving abilities, excellent verbal/written communication, and the ability to present complex technical data.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel (often up to 30–50%) to visit customer sites.
  • Strong Analytical Skills and the ability to interpret and present data effectively
  • Proficiency in Laboratory Skills, including sample preparation, equipment handling, and safety practices
  • Experience in Research and Development (R&D), and familiarity with developing new applications or improving existing techniques
  • Knowledge of Coatings and Polymers, including their properties and applications
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail
  • Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus
  • Experience in handling scientific equipment from brands like Retsch, QATM, Microtrac, Carbolite Gero, or Eltra would be an advantage
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to effectively liaise with internal teams and clients
