Job Summary:
The Junior R&D Chemist will be responsible for conducting research and development activities in the area of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). This role requires a professional with 0-4 years of experience in pharmaceutical chemistry, possessing strong technical skills and a passion for drug development. The chemist will work within cross-functional teams to support the company's research initiatives and contribute to the development of new pharmaceutical products.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Development:
- Conduct laboratory experiments for the synthesis and optimization of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients
- Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness
- Troubleshoot and resolve chemical synthesis issues
- Document experimental procedures, observations, and results in a clear, comprehensive manner
Laboratory Management:
- Maintain laboratory notebooks with detailed, accurate, and organized records
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures during laboratory operations
- Ensure proper handling and storage of chemicals and reagents
- Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment and inventory
Technical Skills:
- Perform analytical techniques including NMR, Mass Spectrometry, IR, HPLC, GC, and SOR
- Interpret analytical data to assess compound purity and structural confirmation
- Apply knowledge of organic synthesis methodologies in pharmaceutical development
- Implement quality-by-design principles in chemical process development
Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including formulation, analytical, and regulatory groups
- Present research findings and progress reports in team meetings
- Participate in project discussions and contribute ideas for process improvements
- Support technology transfer to manufacturing when appropriate
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or relevant certification is preferred.
- M.Sc. (2 - 4 years of experience) in the pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on API and formulation development.
- Strong understanding of drug development processes, regulatory requirements, and market dynamics.
- Proven experience in portfolio management and project evaluation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in project management software and other relevant tools.
