About the Department
Teach advanced techniques, strategies, drills, and match play concepts appropriate to the specialty program and participant skill level.
- Modify instruction to meet individual needs, including age, ability, experience level, and physical considerations.
- Create structured lesson plans and program progressions aligned with specialty program goals and outcomes.
- Maintain a safe instructional environment by enforcing all safety rules, policies, and proper equipment use.
- Demonstrate correct tennis techniques, fitness movements, and drills relevant to specialty programming.
- Provide detailed feedback and performance coaching to support participant development and engagement.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and recreation staff regarding program expectations, progress, and schedules.
- Assist with participant evaluations, attendance tracking, and basic program documentation as required.
- Set up, maintain, and properly store courts, equipment, and supplies before and after programs.

Position Duties
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Advanced knowledge of tennis techniques, rules, drills, and instructional methods related to assigned specialty area.
- Experience teaching or coaching specialty tennis programs.
- Ability to instruct and motivate participants with diverse abilities and skill levels.
- Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and instructional skills.
- Ability to demonstrate advanced tennis skills and physical movements safely and effectively.
- Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Dependable, organized, and able to independently manage specialty programs.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and seasonal programming.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain prior to program start.
Minimum Qualifications
- Previous tennis instruction, coaching certification, competitive playing experience, or specialty program experience strongly preferred.
- Specialty certifications (e.g., PTR, USPTA, USTA, Cardio Tennis, or adaptive training) preferred but not required.
Other Qualifications
- Work may take place in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, cold, snow, and humidity.
- Noise levels range from moderate to loud, often due to active children, group interactions, or busy transportation settings.
Physical Activity(s):- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Duties may require sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, or stooping for extended periods of time.
