About the role

SCHEDULING: Availability and flexibility required.  Up to 20 hours per week – not guaranteed. MUST have good availability on weekdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. AND weekday evenings (excluding Friday) between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., AND good Saturday availability at least once or twice each month.  Work is scheduled on an as-needed, on-call basis. This position may require working at least two Sundays per month during the period that libraries are open on Sundays. 

 

Overall Position Purpose: Work involves responding to a wide variety of customer interests in library services and satisfying requests for technology assistance, materials in print and electronic formats, employment related navigations, information access and library instruction. As well, work encompasses promoting programs, events, and exclusive database services; supporting partnerships related to public health initiatives, AACPL Foundation campaigns, community services, and all literacy related goals. Work is performed under the supervision of a member of the regular information staff using established guidelines. Provision of account services and circulation services are expected on occasion. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with bachelor’s degree awarded. Experience in customer service, using computer and MS WINDOWS; knowledge and experience using the Internet as a research tool, and the capacity to engage in the ongoing learning of database and web-based search products while seeking authoritative, practical answers to meet customer needs.
