Who we want:
We are looking for a stellar Android App Developer to build and scale a high-quality Android app for our IoT Devices/Application with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and user experience. You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, back-end, and QA teams to deliver features end-to-end and continuously improve the app.
Responsibilities:
- Build our Android app for our IoT Devices/Applications
- Design, develop, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin (preferred) and/or Java
- Work with product owners to spec the requirements.
- Design, code, test and deliver various features in our product roadmap
- Fix customer issues as needed.
- Integration with Amazon Alexa, Google Home Kit and other third party platforms.
- Work with REST/GraphQL APIs, implement secure authentication, & manage data flow
- Implement clean, responsive UI using Jetpack Compose and/or XML layouts
- Ensure app performance, stability, quality through profiling, debugging, & optimization
- Write unit tests and contribute to automated testing (JUnit, Espresso, etc.)
- Collaborate with QA and product to plan, test, and release features
- Manage releases and support publishing updates on the Google Play Store
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving engineering standards and architecture
Required Skills:
- 2–4 years of experience building Android apps for phones using Kotlin preferred; Java acceptable)
- Strong Android fundamentals: Activities/Fragments, lifecycle, services, storage, permissions
- Experience with modern Android architecture (MVVM / Clean Architecture)
- Hands-on with Jetpack components: ViewModel, Room, Navigation, WorkManager
- Strong knowledge of Coroutines/Flow (or RxJava) for async programming
- Experience with networking libraries (Retrofit/OkHttp) and JSON parsing
- Experience building/consuming APIs and handling auth, pagination, retries, and error states
- Knowledge of concurrency using Coroutines (and/or RxJava)
- Experience with Firebase (FCM push notifications, Crashlytics, Analytics, Remote Config)
- Experience with CI/CD (Fastlane, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, etc.) and release workflows (Play Console, signing, flavors, Fastlane/GitHub Actions)
- Knowledge of app security best practices and Play Store compliance
- Strong UI development skills and ability to implement pixel-perfect designs
- Good debugging skills using Android Studio tools, Logcat, profiling, crash analysis
- Solid understanding of version control (Git) and collaborative workflows
- Hands on knowledge of IoT
- Hands on knowledge of Unix/Linux.
Preferred Skills:
- 2+ yrs in building IoT/Embedded devices.
- Strong networking knowledge.
- Experience with agile/scrum development, Jira & Git
- Experience with Jetpack Compose experience (or strong XML UI experience with custom views)
- Experience with offline-first apps, caching strategies, and background sync
- Experience with real-time features (WebSockets, chat/messaging, live updates)
- Experience working on performance-heavy apps (scroll optimization, image/video rendering)
- Experience with media pipelines (ExoPlayer, camera, transcoding/compression)
