Develop and adapt applications for Android Automotive OS (AAOS), particularly converting web-based applications into automotive-ready Android APKs. Own the technical execution to support third-party app onboarding, resolve platform compatibility issues, and ensure production readiness. This role plays a key part in scaling the App Store as a global automotive software platform by working closely with OEM and validation teams.
What You´ll Do
- Own development of WebView wrappers and custom Android browsers for AAOS
- Build robust apps strictly adhering to AAOS lifecycle, permissions, and driver distraction guidelines
- Optimize performance and resolve compatibility issues across varying OEM hardware and Android versions
- Lead quick proof-of-concept builds and UI/UX adaptations for OEM demos
- Leverage AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Studio Bot) to accelerate coding, automate documentation generation, test case scaffolding, and onboarding workflow automation
- Collaborate with OEMs and partners to drive technical discussions and integration workshops
- Deliver clear integration guidelines, technical documentation, and SDK reference samples
- Own and maintain ecosystem´s AAOS Developer Portal – write, update, and structure all technical content for third-party app developers
- Build and maintain CLI scripts, starter kits, and GitHub templates so any third-party developer can scaffold and submit an AAOS-compliant app from scratch
- Support app certification and validation testing – assist partner developers in resolving failures against AAOS compliance and OEM-specific requirements
Must Have
- Comfortable customizing apps for different screen sizes, resolutions, and hardware configurations
- Hands-on debugging using ADB and logcat
- Experience with WebView-based applications
- Familiarity with SDK or API-based integrations
- Experience building or maintaining developer-facing documentation (portal, SDK guides, or similar)
- Familiarity with CLI scripting and build automation (bash / Python)
- AI-native working style, actively uses AI tools to write, test, and document faster
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field – or equivalent hands-on experience
- 3+ years of software development experience
- Strong Android development skills (Java / Kotlin)
- Prior experience in Automotive domain (IVI / AAOS / Embedded Android / Digital Cockpit)
- Experience working on AAOS or AOSP-based systems, including the ability to handle AOSP variations and OEM-specific adaptations
- Good understanding of Android lifecycle, permissions, APK build/signing process
- Exposure to Automotive App Store ecosystems and experience working directly with Automotive OEM programs
- Fluent in spoken and written English, must be comfortable working with global OEMs and partners
