Role Description
ETS Control Management is responsible for identifying, assessing, mitigating, monitoring & reporting risk across technology processes as part of the first line of defense. The team ensures adherence to regulatory standards, American Express policies, and strengthens business resilience through robust control management practices.
This role focuses on embedding strong Risk Identification and Assessment within BU processes for Enterprise Digital. The role emphasizes Risk Identification and Assessment, control effectiveness, independent validation, while partnering closely with business, product, and technology stakeholders.
Enterprise Digital creates unified digital experiences for prospects and members across the entire customer lifecycle, powered by data and supports AXP growth by designing best-in-class digital & data capabilities and platforms.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Risk and Control Self Risk Assessment for business unit (RCSA experience)
- Document and project manage deliverables to completion
- Categorize controls and map to risks (e.g., cross-BU process-control mapping)
- Design and test controls
- Understanding of design effectiveness and operating effectiveness concepts when evaluating control effectiveness
- Proactively help identify certain areas of high-risk for intervention
- Support thematic risk reporting (levels, trends, causes)
- Collaborate with stakeholders to support control improvements
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 2+ Years experience in risk management in the 1LOD or at a consulting firm
- Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities, IT risk management, internal/external audit, SOX/ITGC testing, or controls assurance
- Experience in process governance, with an understanding of processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyse data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
- Excellent project management skills, highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
- Highly detail-oriented, good communication, and interpersonal skills
- Preferred skills to include understanding of leveraging Risk Intelligence ( AI models) to proactively identify risk
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous
- Previous technology risk/IT/IS experience or relevant certifications (CISSP, CRISC, CISA etc)
- Exposure to data analytics, automation, or AI/GenAI use cases in risk/control environments
- Experience in at least one of the following:
- Supporting identification of risks throughout business processes and systems
- Facilitating risk assessment performance in addition to further assessments and testing programs to ensure regulatory and internal standards are met
- Supporting independent control monitoring, including identification of control improvements
- Supporting the identification of areas of risk for intervention, including conducting independent quality assurance and process testing
- Experience in the financial services industry
