About the Role
Senior hands-on analytical role requiring demonstrated expertise across field sampling, wet chemistry, instrumental analysis, physicochemical testing, packaging material evaluation, and gas purity analysis within an ISO/IEC 17025 NABL-accredited laboratory.
Qualification: M.Sc. Chemistry / Environmental Science (Full Time)
Experience: Minimum 5 years in ISO/IEC 17025 NABL-accredited laboratory
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Testing & Field Monitoring
- Ambient Air Quality Monitoring as per IS 5182 and USEPA — gaseous pollutants (SO₂, NO₂, H₂S, CO, NH₃, O₃, NMHC), particulate matter (SPM, PM10, PM2.5, Lead, Benzo(a)pyrene), VOCs and Air Toxics (Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, BTX, PAHs)
- Stack Emission Monitoring as per IS 11255, USEPA, and CPCB — process stacks, DG sets, boilers, incinerators, kilns, fugitive emissions, and advanced parameters (H₂S, CS₂, THC, VOCs, Acid Mist, Halogens)
- Indoor and Work Zone Air Quality Monitoring as per IS 5182, USEPA, and OSHA
- Noise Level Monitoring as per IS 9989 and CPCB; Light Illumination Monitoring as per IS 3646
- Water Testing — Drinking Water, Wastewater (ETP/STP as per IS 3025), Surface Water, Ground Water (IS 10500), Cooling Tower, Swimming Pool, and RO Water — physicochemical, nutrients, inorganics, heavy metals, and toxicity (Bioassay)
- Soil Testing as per IS 2720; Hazardous and Solid Waste/Sludge Testing as per TCLP and USEPA Method 1311
- Solid Fuel (IS 1350), Petroleum Products (IS 1448), Cement (IS 4032), Ore and Minerals (IS 1493), Activated Carbon (IS 877/IS 2752), Fertilizers (FCO 1985)
Packaging Testing
- Physical, mechanical, chemical, and migration testing of Plastic Bottles, Pouches, Polyethylene Films, PET/RPET Preforms, HDPE Containers, Flexible Pouches, and Paper Products
- Migration testing as per IS 9845, EU, BIS, FSSAI, and USFDA guidelines
- Polymer identification (FTIR/DSC); PET/RPET analysis — Intrinsic Viscosity, Acetaldehyde, BPA, VOCs, and MOSH/MOAH
- Heavy metals in packaging — DEHP, Barium, Cobalt, Copper, Iron, Lithium, Manganese, Zinc, Antimony
- OTR/WVTR analysis; mechanical testing — Tensile, Elongation, Dart Impact, Tear, Burst, Drop, Vibration Leakage
Gas Testing
- CO₂ (Liquid/Compressed) as per ISBT; N₂ as per IS 1747, ISBT, USP; O₂ as per IS 309 and Indian Pharmacopoeia; Argon as per IS 5760; Compressed Air as per ISO 8573
- Gas instruments: Total Hydrocarbon Analyser, Total Sulphur Analyser, GC-PDHID, Sulphur Chemiluminescence Detector, Moisture Analyser, Dew Point Analyser, CO Analyser (NDIR)
Quality and Compliance
- Independently execute testing, interpret data, prepare technical reports, troubleshoot, and meet TAT
- Maintain ISO/IEC 17025:2017 documentation — DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ, calibration, and analytical records
- Support method validation, verification, and measurement uncertainty estimation
- Participate in proficiency testing, internal audits, and NABL surveillance
- Operate LIMS with bar-coding and digital encryption; maintain 21 CFR Part 11 data integrity
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS — MUST HAVE
- Hands-on experience in environmental, packaging, and gas testing in an ISO/IEC 17025 NABL-accredited laboratory
- Experience in field sampling and monitoring — ambient air, stack emissions, workplace air, noise, illumination, water, wastewater, soil, and industrial effluent
- Strong knowledge of wet chemistry — titrimetry, gravimetry, colorimetry, spectrophotometry, digestion, extraction, and sample preparation
- Experience in physicochemical analysis of drinking water, wastewater, soil, sludge, solid waste, coal, coke, petroleum products, cement, fertilizers, minerals, and industrial matrices
- Exposure to packaging material testing — physical, mechanical, chemical, migration, polymer identification, heavy metals, PET/RPET, OTR/WVTR
- Hands-on experience with: GC, GC-MS/MS, HPLC/LC-MS, ICP-MS/ICP-OES, AAS, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, FTIR, DSC, Ion Chromatograph, TOC Analyser, BOD/COD systems
- Working knowledge of BIS, CPCB, WBPCB, FSSAI, USEPA, ISO, and other national/international test methods and regulatory requirements
- Sound understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 — method validation, measurement uncertainty, calibration, proficiency testing, LIMS, and data integrity
- Ability to independently execute testing, interpret data, prepare reports, troubleshoot, and achieve TAT
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS — PREFERRED
- Experience in gas purity analysis — CO₂, N₂, O₂, Argon, Compressed Air as per ISBT, IS, USP, or ISO 8573
- Experience with isokinetic stack sampling and field-based environmental monitoring
- Experience with TCLP/USEPA Method 1311 for hazardous and solid waste
- Knowledge of Dioxins and Furans testing methodologies
- Prior experience in proficiency testing programs and NABL re-accreditation
- Working knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 and CSV-qualified instrument platforms
