Role Overview:
The Communications Specialist is responsible for researching, writing, editing and updating provider and/or member communications to support Plan health education, training, instruction and outreach initiatives. These include print and electronic media (newsletters, web site content, letters, educational materials, program/initiative descriptions and postcards) and telephonic scripts. Ensures all federal, state and contractual requirements related to communications are met. Collaborates on projects with Associates at all levels.
When indicated, ensures that that print and electronic communications are culturally appropriate and can be easily understood by persons with limited health literacy and limited English proficiency. To that end, will make suggestions for edits in order to make the information more culturally competent and health literate.
Responsibilities:
Assists in developing, writing, editing, and distributing print and electronic member/provider communications, policy documents, website content, and educational materials using plain language principles, ensuring alignment with company values and regulatory guidelines.
Complies with industry standards and corporate communication policies. Applies knowledge of federal and state regulations such as the Section 1557 (non-discrimination in healthcare), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements in the creation of communication materials.
Understands contractual requirements and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) standards to ensure all member/provider communications are compliant.
Assists with cultural reviews of materials to ensure messaging is relevant and resonates with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Stays informed about industry trends and best practices in inclusive communications and regulatory requirements.
Supports the implementation of internal and external communication strategies for company initiatives, programs, and campaigns.
Effectively collaborates with internal legal, compliance, and customer support services teams to align messaging with corporate and inclusivity goals.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare or related field.
Minimum of One (1) to Four (4) years of experience in a managed care, healthcare, or similar setting preferred.
Familiarity with AP Style or other publishing and journalistic guidelines.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work independently and take ownership of multiple projects while being able to meet demands and timelines.
Must posses strong writing and editing skills
Must posses attention to detail.
