About the role

American Express Technology is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. As an SRE, you will be responsible for designing, building and operating highly scalable, highly available, and secure cloud-based infrastructure that supports our global business. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new features and functionality, and ensure the ongoing reliability and performance of our mission-critical applications. Key Responsibilities: - Design, build and maintain resilient, fault-tolerant, highly available cloud infrastructure - Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, etc. - Automate and optimize the provisioning, scaling, and monitoring of cloud resources - Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and reliability issues - Proactively monitor and analyze system metrics to anticipate and prevent problems - Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards - Document processes and share knowledge with the broader engineering team Qualifications: - 3+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer - Proficient in one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Go, Java, etc.) - Experience with cloud infrastructure technologies (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure) - Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) - Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, etc. - Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and CI/CD practices - Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch) - Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills - Strong collaboration and communication skills Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working in a highly regulated industry (e.g. finance, healthcare) - Knowledge of security best practices and compliance frameworks (e.g. GDPR, SOC2, PCI-DSS) - Experience with performance tuning and optimizing cloud-based systems - Familiarity with Chaos Engineering and Site Reliability best practices
