COKE PULLER

  • Spots hopper cars for unloading; operates car puller for positioning car for filling
    nonmetals hopper; operates non-metals hopper conveyors; and maintains a non-metals
    report; operates forklift to dump coke fines.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable
    accommodations.
  2. Must be able to read and write legibly.
  3. Must exhibit the knowledge, skills and ability to do the job.
  4. Due to the hazardous nature of the job environment (mobile equipment, overhead cranes, etc.), an acceptable
    level of vision and hearing are required in order to identify and respond to visual and audible warnings in a
    safe manner.

Essential Physical Functions

  • Standing and walking required on various surfaces, including concrete, graded surfaces, rock, coke, etc.
  • Climbing stairs is required to get into the pit.
  • Climbing vertical ladder is required to get onto railroad cars.
  • Balancing is required while climbing ladder.
  • Stooping is required to remove coke from railroad cars and when assisting to remove hung-up coke from
    the car.
  • Kneeling and crouching also required to remove coke.
  • Overhead reaching is required to climb ladders, etc.
  • Forward-reaching is required to operate controls.
  • Bended-reaching is required to remove coke.
  • Handling is required to operate controls, remove coke, etc.
  • Use of fingers required for writing, keeping appropriate documentation, writing car numbers on
    appropriate forms, etc.
  • Talking and hearing required to communicate with co-workers.
  • Hearing is also required for quality, safety, and accuracy.
  • Seeing required for quality, safety, and accuracy.
  • Lifting and carrying 5 lb. samples and 8 lb. sledgehammer is required. When involved in clean-up, lifting
    up to 15 lbs is required (shovelful of coke).
  • Pushing and pulling with up to 30 lbs force is required to remove coke door on railroad car.

ELECTRIC FURNACE TENDER

  • Assists the Melter in producing a heat of metal and in the general maintenance of the
    furnace.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must exhibit the ability to read and interpret measuring tape and scales.
  2. Must exhibit the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job duties.
  3. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable
    accommodations.
  4. Due to the hazardous nature of the job environment (mobile equipment, overhead cranes, etc.) an acceptable
    level of vision and hearing are required in order to identify and respond to visual and audible warnings in a
    safe manner.

Essential Physical Functions

  • Standing required to operate-manually controlled lid via push button controls, throwing alloys, etc..
  • Walking required to different furnaces in order to put alloys in furnaces.
  • Climbing stairs is necessary to get to job site and to check silicon and sand tanks.
  • Climbing ladder is essential when working in furnace on weekend shift.
  • Balancing required while on ladder in furnace and on side of furnace when chipping spout.
  • Stooping required when shoveling and weighing alloys.
  • Kneeling and crouching required to chip out furnaces.
  • Overhead reach is required to chip out furnaces and to send sample to lab.
  • Forward reach is essential in weighing of alloys, throwing alloys, and operating controls, taking iron temp,
    etc.
  • Bended reach required for picking up alloys, shoveling, and chipping out furnace.
  • Handling required to weigh alloys, throw alloys and to shovel.
  • Use of fingers needed to push buttons on control panel, writing, operate switches, change light bulbs, etc.
  • Talking required for communication with co-workers, crane operator and supervision.
  • Vision is required for quality and safety.
  • Hearing required for safety and communication.
  • Lifting sacks of materials weighing up to 55# maximum is required. Lifting 50# sack of material 0 to 50
    times per shift is required. Minimum lifting weight of 5# is required.
  • Carrying up to a 55# sack of material is required. Also, occasionally carry a 30# box of temp-tips is
    required.
  • Push/pull is required to move alloys to different places.

MELTING TRANSFER LADLE SKIMMER & SAMPLER

  • Skim slag and impurities off molten iron transfer ladles on the north and south side of
    the skimming station and take temperature and iron samples from each ladle.

  1. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable
    accommodations.
  2. Must exhibit the ability to read and write.
  3. Due to the hazardous nature of the job environment (mobile equipment, overhead cranes, etc.) acceptable
    levels of vision and hearing are required in order to identify and respond to visual and audible warnings in a
    safe manner.

Essential Physical Functions

  • Standing required to skim, sample, take temperature, write on sample packets, etc.
  • Walking within small area (approx. 3 steps) required to mail sample, etc.
  • Climbing steps required to get to work area.
  • Stooping required to skim ladles.
  • Overhead reach required to send samples.
  • Forward reach required for taking temperature, taking sample, skimming, writing, etc.
  • Handling required to skim, use pyrometer, dipper, etc.
  • Use of fingers required to write reports, etc.
  • Talking required to communicate with supervisor when problems arise.
  • Vision required for safety and accuracy.
  • Hearing required for safety within plant and communication with supervisor and coworkers.
  • Lifting 50 pounds maximum required (skimmer, pyrometer, samples,) average 10-15 pounds.
  • Carrying 50 pounds maximum required (sample, skimmer paddle, etc.).
  • Pushing/pulling with up to 50 pounds of force required to skim slag from ladles.
