Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing preventative maintenance and making general repair operations across all Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) facilities, including the Central Office, special education schools (Mon Valley, Pathfinder, and Sunrise), and other owned or leased properties. This role ensures that all properties are safe, functional, and maintained in accordance with AIU policies and applicable regulations. The Maintenance Supervisor develops maintenance schedules, coordinates repairs via the work order system, supervises custodial staff, and oversees day-to-day field maintenance operations. The position requires daily use of a work vehicle to perform site visits and complete maintenance tasks. 

Duties and Responsibilities:     

Facilities Operations 

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee preventative maintenance programs for all AIU facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and well-maintained environments. 
  • Perform and/or supervise general maintenance and repair work, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, and minor construction projects. 
  • Manage and prioritize work orders using the AIU work order system; assign tasks and monitor completion timelines and quality of work. 
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities and grounds to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and compliance issues. 
  • Operate and maintain maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and responsible manner. 
  • Respond to urgent maintenance issues and emergencies as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Custodial Management 

  • Maintain records related to maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment servicing. 

Supervision 

  • Supervise custodial staff including scheduling, work assignments, and performance monitoring. 
  • Direct supervision of custodial staff. 
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to assigned staff to ensure efficient and safe operations. 

Vendor, Contractor & Service Provider Management 

  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors and vendors; monitor work quality and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. 

Safety, Security & Compliance 

  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, building codes, and AIU policies and procedures. 

 Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in building maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.), facilities operations, or a related field.
  • School district experience required.
  • Working knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and general building systems.
  • Experience with work order systems, maintenance scheduling, and inventory tracking.
  • Familiarity with state and federal procurement requirements for bids and RFPs.
  • Ability to supervise staff and coordinate work assignments effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a work vehicle daily.

 Additional Requirements:     

  • Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date). 
  • School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
