We are seeking a dedicated Legal Counsel Iberia-Italy to join our EMEA Legal Team. This high-potential position offers the opportunity to support both Iberia and Italy, working closely with the Senior Lead Counsel Italy-Iberia and the VP & General Counsel EMEA.

As Legal Counsel Iberia-Italy, you will provide business advice on a variety of commercial, corporate, and compliance matters, contributing to the day-to-day operations of our global company. You will have the autonomy to manage your daily tasks while supporting the strategic goals set by the Senior Lead Counsel and the VP & General Counsel EMEA.

The ideal candidate will bring international experience, preferably from a medical device or healthcare company, or a law firm’s healthcare team. Strong business acumen and the ability to negotiate with key stakeholders are essential for this role.

This hybrid position is based in Madrid and requires three days a week in the office in Madrid, Spain, or Milan, Italy. If you are ready to take on new challenges and grow your career with us, we would love to hear from you!

Role expectations

As the Legal Counsel Iberia-Italy, you will play a crucial role in managing legal matters and identifying potential risks to Align's business in the markets you support. You will navigate a heterogeneous legal landscape, ensuring compliance with Align Policies, Code of Conduct, and strategy.

You will interface with various disciplines and departments within Align, including but not limited to commercial, corporate, regulatory, competition, litigation, public affairs, and compliance support, under the leadership of the Senior Lead Counsel Italy-Iberia.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams and global centers of excellence on regional and global projects.

The Key Missions

  • Be the first point of contact for day-to-day basic legal matters in Iberia and Italy, as needed by the Senior Lead Counsel Italy-Iberia.
  • Provide legal advice in close coordination with the Senior Lead Counsel Italy-Iberia for strategic issues.
  • Anticipate and address legal, business and ethical issues.
  • Collaborate with the Iberia local HR Department on general employment issues or other issues common to HR and Legal.
  • Plan and deliver training programs, including on Align Policies and interactions with HCPs, under the supervision of the Senior Lead Counsel Italy-Iberia.
  • Contribute to implementing the legal strategy with the Senior Managing Lead Counsel Italy-Iberia and work closely with the rest of the EMEA Legal Department and the Global Compliance and Data Privacy Team to create, develop, implement and maintain a risk-based compliance program with consistent and effective European policies and procedure, that also reflect domestic laws, regulations and culture.
  • Advise and keep the Senior Lead Counsel Italy-Iberia updated on business management of projects in a timely manner and assist in reviewing all matters relating to compliance and financial reporting as appropriate.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Spanish lawyer, licensed to practice under Spanish law
  • 4-6 years post-bar experience, gained in either law firm or in-house environment.
  • Some knowledge of Portuguese law is a plus.
  • Experience within medical device sector or wider pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences sectors; exposure to data privacy, compliance and competition law preferred.
  • Strong drafting skills.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written Spanish, strong level in English and good level in Italian.

  • Good business and risk management judgment and strong ethics.
  • Confident team player and ability to develop relationships and networks at all levels.
  • Experience of working within multicultural teams preferred.
