DevOps Engineer II

Roles & responsibilities: Participate in providing technical support for applications and programs currently in production. Analyze rudimentary incidents quickly or escalate to next level application support engineer. Contribute in the preparation of Production releases by creating appropriate alerts, dashboards, KB articles, Confluence pages and knowledge sharing. Monitor dashboards daily to detect anomalies to share and work on corrections with appropriate teams and team members. Frequently check for alerts and respond appropriately. Contribute in Development Engineering and DevOps Engineering partner meetings to maintain approvement agendas for services and act on them. Work with senior level Team members to proactively improve health of Production services. Participate in looking for opportunities to implement new remediations and automate both new and existing remediations. Understand and apply basic SRE concepts such as SLI, SLO, SLA and selected types of V.A.L.E.T. SRE dashboards. Participate in supportability testing, simulations and analysis. Review and contribute to troubleshooting existing code and vendor applications to identify root cause. Coordinate incident management activities with other support teams. Apply knowledge of computer programming techniques and computer languages to participate in developing, writing and compiling computer programs for temporary or permanent solutions to incident resolution Provide support with developing or acquiring test data and run tests to determine the accuracy of program logic to produce desired results. Assist in the development of production system documentation. Experience Required: 3+ years of programming experience using various standard scripting languages and high level programming languages. Practical knowledge of application servers (WebSphere, WebLogic, and/or JBoss) and database technologies (Oracle, DB2, UDB, and/or SQL Server). Practical knowledge of UI/Web 2.0 Development (JavaScript, CSS, Ajax, Adobe Flash/Flex, Dojo, YUI, and/or jQuery). Practical knowledge of UNIX and Windows operating systems Practical knowledge of current monitoring tools Practical knowledge of full software development lifecycle Practical knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile). Practical knowledge of at least one major cloud platform and Service Container/Instance concepts Practical knowledge of querying and inspection techniques for service and other types of logs Practical knowledge of basic NoSQL DB concepts and experience with querying information from same Practical knowledge of Kafka concepts and health confirmation techniques Excellent organizational and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail. Practical knowledge of programming documentation processes/procedures. Ability to understand client expectations and to resolve issues that may affect service. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across the organization. Self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to learn beyond formal training with a strong aptitude for delivering quality products.
