Description
The Camp Cook works independently in remote conditions, under the direction of the Camp Manager, preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks according to the camp schedule for a crew of 20-25 employees.
The Camp Cook is responsible for:
- All kitchen operations and sanitation
- Maintaining and organizing sufficient groceries in camp
- Scheduling, ordering, and confirming grocery and kitchen re-supply with the camp Expeditor and Project Manager.
- Menu planning, recipes, food preparation, and inventory
Camp Cooks deliver a well-balanced diet consisting of ‘meat and potato’ fare with plenty of fruits and vegetables, taking into account allergies, dietary requests, and camp preference. Food and a positive attitude provide an integral part of camp morale.
Cooks working in remote camp conditions should display menu flexibility, taking into account product on hand, re-supply considerations (such as weather and travel constraints, as well as product availability) and operational cost. The kitchen is used by the crew throughout the day, the Camp Cook provides a warm and inviting reprieve from daily operations, therefore necessitating a cheerful and calm attitude as well as restraint. This position is ideal for someone with a background in catering, or serving larger groups & families.

Requirements:
- Camp Cooks must possess, present, and maintain their Alaska Food Worker Card and facilitate kitchen operations according to ADEC standards at all times.
- Camp Cooks also maintains an “Emergency 10 day food supply” in reserve. This is pre-planned, packed, and provided for you already, but must be checked on a monthly basis to replace anything that may become damaged.
