Job Description: Senior AIX Storage Migration Engineer
Location: Smartworks, 43EQ, Opp Bharti Vidyapeeth, Baner, Pune
Work Mode: Work from Office (5 Days)
Shift: Rotational Night Shift (US Shift) + Cab
Position OverviewWe are looking for a Senior AIX Storage Migration Engineer with strong expertise in AIX host-based storage migrations using AIX Logical Volume Manager (LVM). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience performing server-level storage migrations between arrays while systems remain online, ensuring minimal or no downtime for business-critical applications.
This role requires deep knowledge of AIX storage architecture, multipathing technologies, and high-availability environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesAIX Host-Based Storage Migration- Perform host-based storage migrations using AIX Logical Volume Manager (LVM).
- Execute online data migrations between storage arrays while keeping production systems operational.
- Plan and implement migration strategies to ensure minimal downtime and data integrity.
- Validate data consistency and system stability post-migration.
Storage & Multipathing Management- Configure and manage AIX multipathing environments, including:
- PowerPath
- AIX Native MPIO
- Non-PowerPath configurations
- Manage storage connectivity and ensure optimal path redundancy and performance.
- Work with storage teams to coordinate LUN presentation and path configurations.
Cross-Platform Storage Migration- Perform migrations across EMC and other enterprise storage platforms.
- Support migrations involving heterogeneous storage environments.
- Ensure seamless cutover during storage transitions.
High Availability & Cluster Environments- Support and troubleshoot high-availability AIX environments.
- Work with IBM PowerHA SystemMirror (formerly HACMP) clusters.
- Handle storage migration tasks in clustered environments while maintaining service continuity.
Cluster & File System Technologies- Work with IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) environments.
- Support migrations and storage operations in Oracle RAC clusters running on AIX.
Troubleshooting & Operational Support- Diagnose and resolve storage, multipathing, and performance issues in AIX environments.
- Provide Level 3 support for complex storage and migration-related incidents.
- Document migration procedures, runbooks, and best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in IBM AIX administration
- Strong expertise in AIX Logical Volume Manager (LVM)
- Proven experience performing host-based storage migrations
- Hands-on experience with:
- PowerPath
- AIX Native MPIO
- Non-PowerPath environments
- Experience migrating data across EMC and other enterprise storage platforms
- Strong understanding of AIX storage architecture and disk management
- Experience working in production environments with minimal downtime requirements
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with IBM PowerHA SystemMirror (HACMP)
- Knowledge of IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS)
- Exposure to Oracle RAC clusters on AIX
- Experience supporting high-availability AIX environments
- Strong documentation and communication skills
