Airports Company South Africa was created as a public company in 1993 to own and operate South Africa's nine principal airports, including the main international gateways of O.R. Tambo International, Cape Town International and King Shaka International Airports. Over the years, airport infrastructure has been upgraded, but it was the five-year, R17 billion expansion and upgrading programme that propelled our airports to world-class status. The programme included the building of the greenfield King Shaka International Airport, which serves the Durban region. Airports Company South Africa is now entering a new phase, with a focus on driving growth through international acquisitions and commercial activity. This is steering an organisation-wide transformation where performance, innovation and creativity are highly prized. In parallel with this investment, there has been a strong focus on customer service which has resulted in numerous awards for the quality of passenger experience at our airports.
