About the role

The basic & primary duty of a JE (ATC) is that of Air Traffic Control. They are initially provided a thorough Theoretical and simulated practical training at CATC (Civil Aviation Training College), Allahabad in ATC and other related subjects like Meteorology, Air Regulations, Air Technical, Air Navigation etc. based on International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) requirements & syllabus. After successful completion of the Training Course and after passing the examinations, they are posted at some Airport, where they are put on double banking with some Senior ATC Officer. Double Banking means that the Junior Executive (ATC) performs the ATC duties under the close supervision and guidance of the Senior ATC Officer. This process continues for some time, till the Junior Executive gains sufficient confidence and experience to handle the ATC duties independently. Thereafter, they are entrusted with independent ATC duties at various ATC positions like Aerodrome Control, Approach Control, Area Control etc. They are responsible for ensuring safe, orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic within the defined airspace or aerodrome area, by providing instructions, clearances and information to aircraft. They also coordinate the air traffic movement with adjacent ATC agencies and control centres. They play a vital role in maintaining flight safety by preventing collisions between aircraft and with obstacles on the ground
