Sustainometric is building the next generation of AI-powered sustainability research tools. We are transitioning from traditional human-driven Sustainability research to a hybrid AI + Human Intelligence model, where specialized AI agents conduct document analysis, climate risk assessment, due diligence, and automated sustainability scoring.
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (4-6 years experience) with strong AI exposure to architect and build the technical backbone of Sustainometric v2.

You will design and productionize:

1. Architecture & System Design
โข Design scalable backend architecture for AI agents
โข Build modular RAG pipelines
โข Structure document ingestion, chunking, embedding & retrieval systems
โข Define multi-agent orchestration logic
2. Backend Engineering
โข Build APIs (FastAPI/Django preferred)
โข Implement data processing pipelines
โข Manage structured & unstructured data workflows
โข Design database schemas (SQL/NoSQL)
3. AI Integration
โข Integrate LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
โข Implement embedding & vector search systems (FAISS/Pinecone/Weaviate)
โข Optimize prompts for performance and cost efficiency
โข Design evaluation frameworks for model outputs
4. Production & Deployment
โข Deploy systems on AWS/GCP/Azure
โข Implement logging, monitoring, and error handling
โข Ensure data security & compliance standards
โข Build CI/CD pipelines
5. Team Leadership
โข Mentor AI interns and junior engineers
โข Conduct code reviews
โข Translate product ideas into technical roadmaps
โข Work directly with senior management on long-term AI platform strategy

โข 4-6 years of backend engineering experience
โข Strong Python programming
โข Experience building REST APIs
โข Experience with databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL/MongoDB)
โข Exposure to LLM-based systems or AI applications
Understanding of:
โข RAG pipelines
โข Embeddings & vector search
โข Prompt engineering
โข Cloud deployment experience (AWS/GCP/Azure)
โข Familiarity with Docker and version control (Git)
Bonus:
โข Experience with Mistral. LangChain or Llama
โข Experience building production AI tools
โข Startup experience
โข Interest in sustainability, ESG, or climate tech
โข Experience working with document-heavy systems (PDFs, reports)
