Role Description The AI/ML Intern will work full time in a remote role, contributing to the design, development, and evaluation of machine learning models that support LocalButcher’s platform and operations. Day-to-day responsibilities may include collecting and cleaning data from various sources, building and testing predictive models for demand forecasting, delivery optimization, and customer behavior analysis, and assisting in deploying models into production environments under guidance from senior team members. The intern will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into data-driven solutions and present findings in clear, actionable formats. The role also involves documenting experiments, monitoring model performance, and iterating on solutions to improve accuracy, efficiency, and user experience.
Qualifications
- Strong foundational skills in programming and data: proficiency in Python (or similar language), experience with data manipulation libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy), and familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
- Core AI/ML knowledge: understanding of basic machine learning algorithms (e.g., regression, classification, clustering), experience with frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch, and ability to evaluate models using appropriate metrics.
- Data analysis and problem-solving: skills in exploratory data analysis, statistical reasoning, and the ability to frame business problems as data science tasks with clear hypotheses and success criteria.
- Practical engineering and tooling: exposure to APIs, simple data pipelines, or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and a willingness to learn best practices for deploying and maintaining ML solutions.
- Communication and collaboration: clear written and verbal communication skills, ability to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and a collaborative mindset suited to cross-functional startup teams.
- Education and background: currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; prior project or internship experience in AI/ML is beneficial.
