AI Engineering Team Lead – Mobile Applications

ABOUT THE ROLE
Elephant in the Boardroom is looking for an experienced and technically strong AI Engineering Team Lead – Mobile Applications to lead the development of AI-powered mobile and digital products for international clients.
This is a leadership-focused role suited for a senior engineering professional with strong expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Large Language Models (LLMs), mobile application architecture, backend systems, frontend exposure, DevOps practices, and technical documentation.
The ideal candidate should be capable of leading engineering teams, designing scalable AI-powered mobile solutions, preparing detailed technical documentation, interacting with international stakeholders, and actively contributing to development when required.
The role involves working closely with Australian and international clients while leading a Chennai-based engineering team across multiple AI and mobile application projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of AI, mobile, backend, frontend, and DevOps engineers across multiple projects
- Design and architect scalable AI-powered mobile applications and intelligent digital solutions
- Drive end-to-end project delivery including architecture, development, deployment, optimisation, and post-production support
- Build and oversee AI integrations using LLMs, AI APIs, automation tools, and modern AI frameworks
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation including architecture diagrams, workflows, technical specifications, API documentation, deployment plans, and engineering processes
- Collaborate with international clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions
- Lead Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
- Review code, enforce engineering standards, and ensure best practices across AI, mobile, backend, frontend, and DevOps workflows
- Oversee cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, monitoring, and application scalability
- Handle technical escalations, architecture discussions, delivery risks, and performance optimisation
- Participate in technical hiring, candidate evaluations, and engineering team development initiatives
- Conduct regular mentoring sessions, technical reviews, and growth planning for engineering team members
- Stay updated with emerging AI technologies, mobile engineering trends, architecture standards, and modern engineering practices
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
Artificial Intelligence & LLM Engineering
- Strong experience with OpenAI GPT, Claude, Gemini, LangChain, and AI model integrations
- Prompt Engineering and AI workflow design
- Experience building AI-powered applications, automation systems, chatbots, or recommendation engines
- Knowledge of NLP, embeddings, vector databases, RAG architecture, and AI orchestration frameworks
- Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, or similar ML frameworks
- Understanding of AI model deployment and optimisation
Mobile Application Development
- Strong experience in Flutter and/or React Native
- Native mobile development exposure in Android (Kotlin/Java) and iOS (Swift)
- Experience building and deploying scalable mobile applications
- Mobile application architecture and performance optimisation
- REST APIs, GraphQL, WebSockets, push notifications, and third-party integrations
- Experience with App Store and Google Play deployment processes
Mobile CI/CD and release management
Architecture & Documentation
- Strong expertise in scalable system architecture and solution design
- Experience preparing detailed technical and solution architecture documentation
- Ability to create architecture diagrams, workflows, BRDs, SRS documents, API documentation, and deployment documentation
- Strong understanding of microservices, scalability, security, and engineering best practices
Backend Engineering
- Strong experience in Python (FastAPI/Django) and/or Node.js
- REST APIs, GraphQL, WebSockets
- Database design and optimisation
- Experience building scalable backend systems and integrations
Frontend Exposure
- Exposure to React.js, Next.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript
- Understanding of frontend architecture and API integrations
Cloud & DevOps
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines
- Firebase, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis
- Infrastructure monitoring and deployment automation
- Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines, or similar tools
Tools & Methodologies
- Git, GitHub, Bitbucket
- Jira, Confluence
- Agile / Scrum methodologies
- Experience with scalable engineering workflows and modern development practices
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- 10–15 years of experience in software engineering and application development
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a Team Lead or Technical Lead role
- Strong hands-on experience in AI engineering, mobile application development, solution architecture, backend systems, and DevOps environments
- Experience leading AI-integrated mobile application projects for international clients
- Proven experience managing engineering teams and technical project delivery
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field

- Published mobile applications or AI products in production environments
