About The Role
The AI Engineer (LLM / Generative AI) at HCLTech will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining advanced Large Language Model (LLM) solutions for enterprise applications. This position requires a highly skilled professional capable of translating LLM capabilities into reliable, scalable, and secure solutions that meet enterprise standards. The role emphasizes engineering rigor—ensuring that AI models are optimized for performance, cost-efficiency, and security while continuously improving based on real-world feedback. The AI Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative AI solutions that enhance business processes and customer experiences.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a robust technical background with a minimum of 3-8 years of overall software or machine learning engineering experience. Specific experience in deploying LLM or Generative AI solutions into production environments for at least 1-3+ years is essential. Candidates must demonstrate strong programming skills in Python, with experience in developing backend APIs. Familiarity with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or equivalent is required, along with expertise in building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using vector databases. Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and CI/CD pipelines is necessary. Additionally, familiarity with LLMOps/MLOps tools and monitoring systems will be advantageous. A proactive attitude towards continuous learning and innovation is highly valued.
Responsibilities
The AI Engineer will be responsible for designing and building LLM-powered applications utilizing proprietary and open-source models. This includes implementing prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, tool and function calling, and agent workflows to enhance AI capabilities. The role involves deploying solutions into cloud and enterprise environments with an emphasis on scalability and reliability. The engineer will develop inference APIs, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployment processes. Monitoring model performance in production is critical; therefore, the engineer will track metrics such as quality, latency, cost, drift, and hallucinations, making iterative improvements as needed. Fine-tuning models using parameter-efficient techniques to improve accuracy and efficiency is also part of the responsibilities. Optimization of inference performance through caching, batching, quantization, and prompt tuning will be regularly performed. Ensuring security, privacy, and responsible AI practices in all deployments is paramount. The role requires close collaboration with product, platform, and engineering teams to deliver enterprise-grade AI solutions that align with business objectives.
