About The Role
The AI Engineer (LLM / Generative AI) at HCLTech will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade Large Language Model (LLM) solutions. This position requires a highly skilled professional with a strong foundation in AI and machine learning, particularly in generative AI and LLM frameworks. The successful candidate will focus on transforming LLM capabilities into reliable, scalable, and secure enterprise applications, ensuring high performance, cost efficiency, and user satisfaction. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, platform engineers, and security specialists, the AI Engineer will drive innovation in enterprise AI solutions that meet business needs and adhere to responsible AI practices.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise, practical experience, and a passion for AI innovation. Candidates should have strong programming skills in Python, with experience in developing backend APIs and microservices. Hands-on experience with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar is essential, along with expertise in building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines utilizing vector databases. Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes, as well as cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, is required. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, LLMOps/MLOps tools, and monitoring systems is also necessary. A minimum of 3 to 8 years of overall software or ML engineering experience, with at least 1 to 3+ years dedicated to delivering LLM or Generative AI solutions in production environments, is expected.
Responsibilities
The AI Engineer will be responsible for designing and building LLM-powered applications, implementing prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), tool/function calling, and agent workflows. They will deploy AI solutions into cloud and enterprise environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. Building inference APIs, microservices, and establishing CI/CD pipelines will be core tasks to facilitate continuous integration and deployment. Monitoring model quality, latency, cost, drift, and hallucinations in production environments is critical to maintaining optimal performance. The engineer will fine-tune and enhance models using parameter-efficient techniques and optimize inference performance through caching, batching, quantization, and prompt optimization. Ensuring security, privacy, and responsible AI guardrails across all deployments is a key aspect of the role. Additionally, they will collaborate with product, platform, and engineering teams to deliver innovative enterprise AI solutions that align with business goals and compliance standards.
