About The Role
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing Yuna’s core conversational intelligence systems. This role involves designing sophisticated agentic flows, including retrieval, memory, safety protocols, and evaluation mechanisms that underpin our AI-driven mental health support platform. Your work will directly impact the quality, safety, and reliability of user interactions, ensuring that Yuna’s AI provides empathetic, accurate, and safe responses. You will collaborate closely with clinical psychologists and cross-functional teams to develop features that meet clinical guidelines and user needs. Your contributions will help us ship user-visible improvements rapidly while maintaining high standards for safety and effectiveness. This position offers an exciting opportunity to build cutting-edge AI systems that have a meaningful impact on mental health support worldwide.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should have over five years of experience building robust backend systems in production environments, with proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, or NodeJS. Strong skills in API design, systems architecture, and deployment are essential. Hands-on experience with LangGraph and developing agentic systems, including tool calling, memory management, and orchestration, is highly desirable. Candidates must have practical knowledge of deploying services on Kubernetes, troubleshooting production issues, and optimizing for latency, cost, and quality. Expertise in modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow is required, along with familiarity with relational and vector search systems. Additionally, candidates should be comfortable working with ambiguity, creating innovative solutions from the ground up, and collaborating effectively in a remote environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement agentic flows that facilitate tool use, multi-turn planning, and safe retrieval for mental health applications.
- Work closely with clinical psychologists, both internal and external, to ensure the efficacy and safety of Yuna’s conversational AI systems.
- Develop and maintain evaluation frameworks, including benchmarks, rubrics for conversational quality, and safety assessments to continuously improve AI performance.
- Build and operate backend services for conversation state management, user memory, retrieval, and tool integrations using REST and gRPC protocols.
- Collaborate with front-end teams to create APIs, conduct quality assurance, and support implementation efforts.
- Implement safety and alignment layers such as self-harm detection, red-teaming, refusal strategies, and escalation pathways aligned with clinical standards.
- Optimize system performance for latency, cost-efficiency, and overall quality to ensure a seamless user experience.
- Partner with product, sales, and user experience teams to scope and develop new features that enhance the platform’s capabilities and safety.
