About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer with a focus on production and application development to join our dynamic team at Deutsche Telekom Digital Labs. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying AI-powered features and services that integrate seamlessly into our existing platforms. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including backend, frontend, and data science to bring innovative AI solutions from concept to production. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our AI features are reliable, scalable, and secure, contributing to the overall digital transformation goals of the organization.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software engineering. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required. Proven experience in deploying AI models in production environments, particularly with large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and API development, is essential. Familiarity with microservices architecture, cloud platforms, and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is preferred. Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative mindset are also key attributes for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement AI-powered product features, including LLMs, RAG, agents, and ML APIs, integrating them into existing services to enhance functionality and user experience.
• Integrate off-the-shelf and custom-built models into robust microservices and user-facing workflows, ensuring seamless operation and scalability.
• Develop and manage retrieval, context assembly, tools integration, guardrails, and fallback mechanisms for RAG and workflow/agent pipelines.
• Take ownership of AI service reliability in production, focusing on latency, throughput, cost management, observability, circuit breakers, and version control of models and prompts.
• Collaborate closely with data scientists to productionize model training, finetuning, and evaluation outputs, transforming them into stable APIs and workflows.
• Implement comprehensive logging, feedback collection, and lightweight online evaluation hooks to monitor and improve the quality of AI features over time.
• Ensure the safety, security, and compliance of AI features by implementing prompt injection defenses, PII handling, abuse and hallucination controls, and maintaining audit trails.
• Contribute to the development of internal AI tooling, including SDKs, templates, and reusable components, to accelerate future AI use cases and deployment.
