About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer with a focus on production and application development to join our dynamic team at Deutsche Telekom Digital Labs. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying AI-powered features into our existing service ecosystem. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including backend, frontend, and data science, to integrate large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agents, and machine learning APIs into scalable microservices and user-facing applications. Your expertise will help us deliver intelligent, reliable, and secure AI functionalities that enhance our digital offerings and improve customer engagement.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in AI and software engineering, with proven experience in deploying machine learning models in production environments. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required. You should have hands-on experience with LLMs, embeddings, and ML APIs, along with proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or similar. Familiarity with microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is essential. Strong understanding of AI safety, security, and compliance considerations, including prompt injection defenses, PII handling, and abuse mitigation, is also required. Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to translate complex AI concepts into practical solutions are vital for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement AI-powered product features, including LLMs, RAG, agents, and ML APIs, into existing services, ensuring seamless integration with backend and frontend systems.
- Develop and maintain microservices that host AI models, ensuring robustness, scalability, and high availability.
- Create and optimize retrieval, context assembly, tools integration, and workflow pipelines for RAG and agent-based systems, including guardrails and fallback mechanisms.
- Take ownership of AI service reliability in production, monitoring latency, throughput, cost efficiency, and system observability, and implementing circuit breakers, rollback, and versioning strategies for models and prompts.
- Collaborate closely with Data Scientists to productionize model training, fine-tuning, and evaluation outputs, transforming them into stable, scalable APIs and workflows.
- Implement logging, feedback mechanisms, and lightweight online evaluation hooks to continuously monitor and improve the quality of AI features over time.
- Ensure AI features adhere to safety, security, and compliance standards, including prompt injection defenses, PII management, and abuse/hallucination controls, while maintaining comprehensive audit trails.
- Contribute to the development of internal AI tooling, such as SDKs, templates, and reusable components, to accelerate future AI use cases and development efforts.
