AI Innovation and Inclusion Initiative (A4I) is a partnership between Microsoft and IIIT-B, working with non-profit partners to apply AI to real-world challenges in education, healthcare, accessibility, and agriculture. A4I helps evolve promising innovations into open-source Digital Public Goods that can be deployed at scale for meaningful social impact.
Role Overview
We are looking for an Analytics and Dashboard Engineer to lead the reporting and data visualisation layer across A4I’s AI platforms. You will build data pipelines, design reporting models, administer an open-source BI platform, and deliver dashboards that serve internal teams as well as programme stakeholders. The role also includes mentoring interns and junior engineers and helping strengthen analytics capability within the team.
What You Will Do
• Deploy, configure, and maintain an open-source BI platform such as Apache Superset as the primary analytics tool across A4I’s products.
• Manage role-based access control, dashboard permissions, and embedded delivery so each user persona sees data appropriate to their role.
• Build ETL and ELT pipelines in Python that move data from application databases, AI service logs, and operational telemetry into reporting-ready schemas.
• Design dimensional and hierarchical data models that support multi-level drill-down across programme hierarchies.
• Define and maintain canonical metrics for AI platform usage, content generation, system health, and programme outcomes.
• Deliver dashboards for internal teams tracking system performance, LLM costs, and evaluation metrics, alongside dashboards for external stakeholders following adoption and outcomes.
• Write clean, well-documented SQL and Python code that teammates can maintain and extend.
• Mentor interns and junior engineers on SQL patterns, data modelling, dashboard design, and pipeline development.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or BI platform development, including work on production systems.
• Strong SQL skills including complex joins, window functions, and CTEs, with the ability to design star, snowflake, or hierarchical schemas for multi-level reporting.
• Hands-on experience building ETL or ELT pipelines in Python that move data between heterogeneous sources and include data quality checks.
• Experience deploying and administering a BI platform such as Apache Superset, Metabase, or Redash, including access control, data source management, and embedded delivery.
• Working knowledge of role-based access control or row-level security for scenarios where different user personas see different data scopes.
• Solid Python skills for data engineering: scripting, API integration, data transformation, and pipeline automation with maintainable production code.
• Comfort working across cross-functional teams and communicating data decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Apache Superset, including deployment, Jinja-based dynamic filtering, RBAC configuration, and dashboard embedding.
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster for pipeline scheduling and monitoring.
• Exposure to analytics engineering workflows using dbt or similar transformation frameworks.
• Experience with cloud data services on Azure, AWS, or GCP, including managed databases and monitoring.
• Prior work in social impact, public sector, or resource-conscious deployment contexts where clarity of reporting matters.
• Open-source contributions, technical writing, or a portfolio of shipped analytics work.
