Hiring: Agronomist – Banana Fruit Care (Solapur Cluster)
India produces nearly one-third of the world's bananas, yet only a small fraction reaches export markets. One of the biggest reasons is inconsistent fruit quality caused by unstandardised fruit care practices.
Most banana fruit care in India is still done by habit, not science — activities executed at the wrong stage, with the wrong inputs, or in the wrong sequence. The resulting loss in yield, quality, and farmer income is enormous.
At Bharat Intelligence, we're building India's first AI-powered Rural Labour Operating System.
We organise, verify, train, deploy and manage agricultural labour at scale — starting with horticulture, where the quality and timing of labour directly determines what a farmer earns.
We're looking for an Agronomist – Banana Fruit Care to help build the agronomic foundation for banana fruit care operations across our Solapur cluster.
What this role does
This is not a sales role.
This is not an advisory role where recommendations end with a farm visit.
You will be the agronomic decision-maker responsible for determining when interventions should happen, what standards they must meet, and whether execution on the ground matches those standards.
You will work directly with field operations teams to translate crop science into repeatable and auditable systems that can scale beyond a single cluster.
Key Responsibilities
📍 Crop Advisory & Intervention Planning
• Assess plot-level crop condition and determine readiness for each fruit care stage
• Guide critical banana fruit care activities, including:
- Bud Injection
- Bunch Spraying
- FOR
- Deflowering
- Dehandling
- Bagging
• Build and maintain science-based activity calendars, considering the following:
- Variety
- Plant age
- Agro-climatic conditions
- Target market quality requirements
• Recommend stage-specific interventions to improve:
- Bunch weight
- Finger size
- Uniformity
- Marketable yield
• Identify nutrition, irrigation, pest, and disease-related issues impacting fruit quality and provide corrective recommendations
📍 Quality Control & SOP Development
• Audit field execution against defined SOPs
• Distinguish between planning failures and execution failures
• Document observations through the Phala app and escalate operational deviations
• Develop and continuously improve fruit care playbooks that can be replicated across new clusters
📍 Team Training & Farmer Engagement
• Train field operations executives and labour team leads on activity identification, quality benchmarks, and execution standards
• Act as the primary technical resource for farmers
• Resolve crop queries using evidence-based recommendations
• Build farmer confidence in Bharat Intelligence's agronomic capabilities
📍 Reporting & Learning
• Capture structured field observations after cluster visits
• Track outcomes against recommendations provided
• Continuously refine protocols based on observed field results
• Contribute to the development of scalable agronomic systems
What We're Looking For
✅ B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Agriculture, Horticulture, or Agronomy
✅ Demonstrated hands-on experience with banana cultivation and fruit care
✅ Ability to identify bunch development stages and recommend appropriate interventions
✅ Familiarity with the Solapur / Tembhurni banana belt, including local farming practices and growing conditions
✅ Comfortable with extensive field travel across dispersed farm clusters
Strongly Preferred
• Experience in crop advisory, agri-input companies, extension services, or quality-focused banana operations
• Exposure to export-grade banana quality standards
• Ability to communicate technical recommendations clearly to farmers
The Mindset We Value
🔹 Scientifically Rigorous
You base recommendations on field observations, data, and agronomic principles—not convention.
🔹 Systems Thinker
Your goal is to build protocols that can scale across clusters and continue working without constant supervision.
🔹 Ownership-Oriented
You measure success through fruit quality outcomes and farmer results—not just activity completion.
Why This Role Matters
India produces 33% of the world's bananas but exports less than 3%.
A major reason is inconsistent fruit quality caused by fragmented and unstandardised fruit care practices.
At Bharat Intelligence, we're building systems that bring consistency, accountability, and quality to agricultural operations.
The agronomic protocols developed in this role will help define how banana fruit care is executed across future Bharat Intelligence clusters.
📍 Location: Solapur / Tembhurni, Maharashtra
If you have hands-on experience in banana cultivation and are excited about building scalable agricultural systems, we'd love to hear from you.
