JD - NPD - Development Manager (Casting & Foundry)
Position Title: Sr. Manager / AGM – New Product Development (NPD)
Department: New Product Development / Engineering
Reporting To: NPD / Head – Engineering / Plant Head
Location: Perundurai, Erode
Position Overview:
The Sr. Manager / AGM – NPD is responsible for managing and executing new product development activities within the foundry. This role involves coordination with cross-functional teams including Design, Tool Room, Production, Quality, and Purchase to ensure successful development, trial, and commercialization of new cast components. The incumbent will play a key role in driving innovation, process optimization, and customer satisfaction through effective management of new product introduction projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. New Product Development (NPD)
Lead end-to-end development of new castings, from design validation to first-time-right trials.
Work closely with patterns, simulation, and foundry teams to ensure defect-free castings.
Coordinate with customers for technical discussions, feasibility checks, and design modifications.
2. Yield Improvement & Process Optimization
Analyze and optimize gating and risering systems to maximize yield.
Implement chill design modifications to improve solidification and reduce shrinkage.
Work with the foundry team to reduce metal wastage and optimize process efficiency.
Drive cost reduction initiatives through material optimization and process improvements.
3. Development Rejection & Casting Defect Reduction
Identify and eliminate root causes of defects such as shrinkage, porosity, air leaks, and dimensional mismatches.
Utilize casting simulation results to predict and mitigate potential defects before trials.
Work with the quality and machining teams to ensure defect-free castings.
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for repeated rejections.
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate with pattern makers, foundry engineers, machining teams, and customers for smooth development.
Drive regular development review meetings with internal teams to track progress.
Ensure alignment between pattern design, foundry requirements, and machining feasibility.
5. Documentation
Maintain detailed records of development trials, rejection analysis, and corrective actions.
Ensure adherence to customer specifications, internal quality standards, and PPAP requirements.
Drive continuous improvement projects in development.
Education & Experience
DME / BE Mechanical Engineering / Metallurgy / Foundry Technology.
8+ years of experience in casting development, pattern design, and foundry processes.
Strong knowledge of simulation software (MAGMA, Flow-3D, etc.) is preferred.
Experience in machining feasibility and customer audits (PPAP, APQP, etc.).
Technical Skills
Expertise in casting defects analysis, gating & risering optimization, and yield improvement.
Hands-on experience with pattern design, core-making, and solidification principles.
Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects and customer interactions effectively.
Proactive and results-oriented approach to continuous improvement.
