About the role

As a Senior UX Designer, you will lead research and design activities that balance user needs, mission requirements, and technical constraints. You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to transform complexity into clarity. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguous problem spaces, brings a systems mindset to user challenges, and can advocate for design as a strategic partner within agile teams. Familiarity with AI tools, data platforms, or emerging technologies is preferred, but not required. This position is part of a broader community of practice at Agile Defense dedicated to human-centered design, innovation, and ethical AI delivery. Responsibilities: • Scope and guide discovery activities that clarify user goals, constraints, and mission-critical workflows. • Facilitate stakeholder interviews, workshops, and collaborative planning sessions. • Translate findings into user requirements and early design hypotheses aligned with program objectives. • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure user input shapes AI and data solutions from the outset. • Lead the synthesis of research data into actionable insights and opportunity areas. • Create and refine journey maps, service blueprints, and conceptual models. • Design and run usability studies that evaluate workflows and interface patterns. • Advocate for iterative improvement based on evidence, user input, and system feedback. • Produce high-fidelity wireframes, prototypes, and annotated design specifications. • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure implementation aligns with design intent. • Present and defend design rationale to leadership, customers, and mission stakeholders. • Contribute to the refinement of design systems, accessibility standards, and component libraries. • Act as a UX lead within product teams, ensuring design is embedded in agile delivery cycles. • Mentor junior designers and contribute to the professional growth of the UX team. • Model best practices in design communication, documentation, and decision-making. • Promote inclusive design, plain language, and human-centered methods across the program. Requirements: • Advanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Miro, or Adobe XD. • Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design standards (e.g., Section 508, WCAG). • Demonstrated experience leading research and design for technical, data-intensive applications. • Ability to synthesize insights into system-level design recommendations. • Familiarity with AI/ML workflows, data labeling, or agent-based tools is a plus. • Experience supporting federal or DoD programs preferred.
