Location: Bengaluru, Pune, Gandhinagar
Experience: 8–12 Years
Industry: Aerospace & Defence / Avionics
About the Role
Qubist Solutions is looking for an experienced System Safety Assessment & Reliability Engineer to join our Aerospace & Defence engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in system safety assessment, reliability engineering, and certification activities for safety-critical avionics systems. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with international aerospace safety standards while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
We are currently looking for an experienced Aerospace System Safety Assessment & Reliability Engineer to drive the safety and certification processes for our critical avionics programs.
If you have a deep background in bridging system architectures with DO-178C and DO-254 development and want to shape safety-critical systems from the ground up, we want to connect with you.
The Role: You will be the critical link between our system architecture and component-level design. You will own the safety assessment processes (ARP4761/ARP4754A) across the product lifecycle, ensuring our embedded hardware and software meet the most rigorous global certification standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Lifecycle Ownership: Lead safety analyses across the development lifecycle in strict accordance with SAE ARP4761 and ARP4754A/B.
- Hazard & Safety Assessments: Drive FHAs to define safety objectives, develop PSSAs to allocate DALs to hardware/software, and execute final SSAs to verify compliance.
- Analytical Modeling: Perform qualitative and quantitative safety analyses, including FTA, FMEA/FMECA, and CCA.
- Cross-Functional Integration: Work closely with our engineering teams to ensure safety constraints are practically integrated into DO-178C and DO-254 workflows.
- Certification: Prepare and approve Safety Assessment Reports (SAR) and compliance evidence for regulatory agencies (FAA, EASA).
What We Are Looking For:
- 5+ years of dedicated experience in aerospace system safety engineering.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
- Demonstrated mastery of ARP4761 and ARP4754A in practical applications.
- Strong understanding of avionics, safety-critical architectures, and item-level design rigor.
- Proficiency with safety modeling software and requirements management platforms (e.g., DOORS).
- Bonus: Familiarity with aviation cybersecurity (DO-326A) or military standards (MIL-STD-882E).
System Safety Engineering
- Lead and perform system safety assessments, including:
- Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)
- Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Common Cause Analysis (CCA)
- Execute safety analyses in accordance with ARP4761 guidelines.
- Define, allocate, and maintain system safety requirements and safety cases in compliance with ARP4754A.
- Ensure end-to-end traceability of safety-critical requirements across hardware, software, and system development activities.
- Perform safety and reliability modelling using ANSYS Medini Analyze (preferred) or equivalent safety analysis tools
Reliability Engineering
- Conduct reliability predictions, analyses, and modelling to evaluate:
- System availability
- Failure rates
- Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
- Support Design-for-Reliability (DfR) initiatives by identifying potential failure mechanisms and recommending design improvements.
- Perform quantitative reliability analyses using industry-standard methodologies and tools.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace reliability and regulatory requirements.
Certification & Compliance
- Support certification activities with aviation regulatory authorities such as EASA and FAA.
- Prepare and maintain:
- Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
- Compliance Matrices
- Certification documentation
- Ensure compliance with aerospace safety standards, including:
- DO-178C (Software)
- DO-254 (Hardware)
- ARP4754A (System Development)
- ARP4761 (Safety Assessment)
- Participate in technical audits, design reviews, and certification boards.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with system, software, hardware, and verification teams to integrate safety and reliability throughout the development lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on safety and reliability engineering methodologies.
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to ensure safety and certification milestones are achieved within project schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8–12 years of hands-on experience in System Safety and Reliability Engineering for avionics, aerospace, or other safety-critical systems.
- Strong experience performing FHA, FMEA, FTA, and CCA in accordance with ARP4754A and ARP4761.
- Solid understanding of aerospace functional safety and certification standards, including:
- DO-178C
- DO-254
- ARP4754A
- ARP4761
- Experience preparing safety cases, certification documentation, and compliance reports for aerospace or avionics programs.
- Hands-on experience with one or more safety and reliability analysis tools such as:
- ANSYS Medini Analyze
- Isograph
- ReliaSoft
- FaultTree+
- SCADE Safety
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and technical writing skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with EASA or FAA certification programs.
- Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts.
- Exposure to complex embedded, avionics, or mission-critical systems.
