About olee.space
We are building India's most advanced free-space optical communication (FSOC) and quantum-secure networking systems. State-of-the-art atmospheric compensation for high-throughput laser links has been demonstrated globally.
About the Role
You will design wavefront sensing and correction systems for our satellite laser communication links — compensating atmospheric turbulence to maintain high-quality optical beams for reliable space-to-ground and inter-satellite links. This role sits at the intersection of optics, control systems, and real-time signal processing.
What You Will Do
- → Design and implement adaptive optics systems — deformable mirrors (MEMS, piezoelectric, bimorph), wavefront sensors (Shack-Hartmann, pyramid, curvature), and tip-tilt correction mechanisms
- → Develop AO control algorithms — modal and zonal wavefront reconstruction, predictive control, model-based AO, and machine-learning-based wavefront estimation
- → Model atmospheric turbulence (Kolmogorov/von Kármán, Cn² profiling) and its impact on optical link performance using MATLAB, Python, or dedicated AO simulation tools (OOMAO, COMPASS, SOAPY) → Integrate AO sub-system with the broader laser communication terminal PAT (Pointing, Acquisition, and Tracking) architecture
- → Conduct laboratory characterisation — closed-loop bandwidth, Strehl ratio improvement, residual wavefront error — and outdoor field validation
- → Support field tests of AO-enhanced laser communication links across varying atmospheric conditions → Collaborate with optical, FPGA, firmware, and systems engineering teams on real-time AO loop implementation
You Must Have
- → B.E./B.Tech (mandatory) with M.Tech/M.Sc/Ph.D preferred in Optics, Photonics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering
- → 5+ years in adaptive optics system design, simulation, or testing — academic or industry
- → Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python for wavefront simulation and control algorithm development → Understanding of Zernike polynomials, Strehl ratio, wavefront error budgets, turbulence statistics, and isoplanatic angle
- → Hands-on experience with deformable mirrors, wavefront sensors, and fast steering mirrors
Nice to Have
→ Experience with adaptive optics for free-space optical communication
→ Background in real-time FPGA-based control system design for high-bandwidth AO loops (>1 kHz) → Knowledge of machine learning approaches for wavefront prediction (CNN, RNN-based methods) → Familiarity with scintillation compensation and aperture averaging techniques for satellite links
What You Get
Nation-critical FSOC and quantum-secure work
→ Competitive pay + ESOPs
→ Your name on flight hardware orbiting Earth
→ Health insurance, L&D budget, conference sponsorship
→ Zero bureaucracy — talk to the CEO anytime
