Role and Responsibilities Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Part Qualified or Nearly Qualified Actuary to support the development, review, and submission of actuarial rate filings across multiple U.S. jurisdictions on admitted and non-admitted products. This role will play a critical part in ensuring that pricing strategies are actuarially sound, compliant with state regulations, and aligned with the company’s profitability and growth objectives.
Rate Indications & Pricing Support
- Contribute to rate strategy across lines of business, ensuring alignment with profitability and growth targets.
- Develop actuarially sound rate indications for multiple lines using advanced ratemaking techniques.
- Perform trend, loss development, exposure analysis, and profitability reviews to support pricing decisions.
- Support development of rating algorithms, segmentation strategies, and pricing models.
- Provide insights and recommendations to business leadership on rate adequacy and pricing strategy.
- Conduct research and perform competitive analysis to stay updated with market trends, new products, coverages, changes in state specific rules and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate with pricing teams and other stakeholders like UW, Claims, Reserving, Compliance to develop pricing strategies on P&C insurance products.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of pricing strategies and make recommendations for improvements.
Rate Filing Development & Implementation
- Prepare and submit complete and compliant rate filings to U.S. state insurance departments.
- Draft actuarial memoranda supporting filing assumptions, methodologies, and indications.
- Ensure filings comply with regulatory requirements frameworks such as NAIC, ISO, NCCI
- Timely respond to regulatory objections and interrogatories from state departments of insurance (DOI), and provide technical explanations defending actuarial methodologies used in filings.
- Assist in the implementation of filed and approved insurance products.
Rate Retention & Monitoring
- Prepare monthly rate monitoring and retention reports summarizing key portfolio metrics including achieved rate change, retention trends, premium growth, and policy count changes
- Monitor the impact of rate changes across products, states, and customer segments, tracking metrics such as achieved rate, policy retention, premium changes, and exposure movements.
- Lead or support initiatives to transform manual reporting processes into scalable and automated solutions using modern analytics tools and data infrastructure.
- Analyze policyholder retention and renewal behavior following rate changes to assess customer elasticity and potential competitive impacts.
- Evaluate differences between expected rate impacts and actual portfolio performance, identifying drivers of variance.
- Collaborate with pricing, data engineering, and IT teams to build efficient monitoring frameworks and reusable reporting datasets.
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s/Master's degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, actuarial sciences, statistics.
- Affiliation to IAI , IFOA, CAS or SOA with 8+ actuarial exams completed.
- 4-6 years of experience, preferably experience in U.S. P&C ratemaking, pricing, or regulatory filings.
- Understanding of U.S. insurance regulatory environments and filing requirements.
- Advanced skills in Excel, VBA, SAS, SQL, R, Python and other relevant tools for data analysis and visual tools such as Power BI, QlikView.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze large datasets and make data-driven decisions.
- Strong communication skills and team player spirits.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
