About the Role:
The Ranch Hand plays a vital role in the daily operations and maintenance of a working ranch, ensuring the health and productivity of livestock and the upkeep of ranch facilities. This position requires hands-on involvement in feeding, herding, and caring for animals, as well as maintaining fences, equipment, and pastures. The Ranch Hand contributes to the overall efficiency and sustainability of ranch operations by performing physical labor and monitoring animal welfare. This role demands adaptability to outdoor work in varying weather conditions and a commitment to safety and animal care standards. Minimum Qualifications:
- Previous experience working on a ranch or farm environment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of livestock care and handling.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong work ethic and reliability with a willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating farm machinery and equipment safely.
- Familiarity with animal health and nutrition practices.
- Certification in animal first aid or related agricultural training.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of sustainable ranching practices and pasture management.
Responsibilities:
- Feed, water, and monitor the health of livestock daily, including cattle, horses, and other animals as applicable.
- Maintain and repair fences, gates, and other ranch infrastructure to ensure secure and safe enclosures.
- Operate and maintain ranch equipment such as tractors, ATVs, and tools necessary for daily tasks.
- Assist with breeding, calving, and other animal husbandry activities under supervision.
- Manage pasture conditions by rotating grazing areas and assisting with weed control and irrigation as needed.
- Perform general maintenance tasks around the ranch, including cleaning barns, stalls, and storage areas.
- Observe and report any signs of illness or injury in animals to the ranch manager or veterinarian.
- Support seasonal activities such as hay production, planting, and harvesting crops related to ranch operations.
