About the Department

Teach courses and implement the instructional program in accordance with course syllabi, Alabama Community College System policies, and guidelines; advise and recruit students; assist in updating curricula; maintain teaching equipment; serve on College committees; support the total mission of the College; coordinate instructional activities with the Director of Nursing, Division Director, and Associate Dean where applicable; and perform other duties as assigned. The position requires extensive knowledge of the instructional discipline.

Salary Schedule: D1 IA-IV

Position Duties

  1. Perform assignments and maintain duty hours in accordance with the current faculty schedule. Classes may be taught at either campus and/or at an off-campus site. Classes may be scheduled day, evening or weekends to meet student needs.
  2. Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the course syllabi, facilitate student learning, and assist in implementing the total instructional program.
  3. Promote nursing student education and remediation methods.
  4. Provide instruction in nursing simulation/lab activities to include simulation development/objectives, pre-briefings, debriefings, and diverse scenarios.
  5. Integrate course-specific simulation activities/scenarios to promote clinical judgment, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning.
  6. Run, assess, and maintain simulation activity records.
  7. Promote safety throughout the total instructional program.
  8. Maintain instructional-related records, including student attendance, student grades, enrollment records, competency records, student's plan of study, etc.
  9. Provide timely and accurate "Student No-Show" reports. These reports require instructor signatures and instructors are potentially financially liable for inaccurate reporting.
  10. Maintain classroom and laboratory equipment, supplies, and environments, which promote learning to perform in the current and emerging work world environments.
  11. Complete required surveys and student data requests.
  12. Communicate with program advisory committee members, employers, and former students to receive guidance for upgrading curriculum and instruction.
  13. Provide academic advisement and assistance to students in career decision-making program planning , registration , and job seeking.
  14. Follow-up on graduates and former students .
  15. Coordinate with the college placement office to identify potential employment opportunities for students and to identify students interested in job placement.
  16. Assist in developing and upgrading course syllabi and other curriculum materials.
  17. Manage live work activities, records, and materials where included in the curriculum.
  18. Serve on college committees as needed to support the total mission of the college.
  19. Promote the specific instructional program and the total institution within the occupational area and throughout the community.
  20. Recruit students for classes.
  21. Assist in recruiting, orienting, and supporting adjunct instructors to teach courses in area of responsibility.
  22. Contribute to the welfare and advancement of the total community.
  23. Keep up to date with teaching methodology, occupational information, and technology through professional development activities.
  24. Incorporate technology into the teaching/learning experience.
  25. Comply with applicable laws and regulations communicated through memos, staff meetings, and professional development workshops.
  26. Adhere to annual faculty evaluations.
  27. Develop and implement lesson plans and appropriate test and measurement devices.
  28. Attend faculty meetings, in-service programs, and other college programs and functions, such as commencement and award ceremonies.
  29. Coordinate clinical activities and preceptorships with affiliate clinical agencies.
  30. Maintain expertise in areas of responsibility, and performance must reflect scholarship and evidenced-based teaching and clinical practices. (ACEN 2017)
  31. Participate fully in the institutional planning process and assist in carrying out the overall instructional mission of the College.
  32. Maintain compliance with College and program, related accreditation and certification standards.
  33. Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts.
  34. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

Minimum Qualifications


Required Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in Nursing, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama. 
  2. Minimum of 3 years full-time experience in Nursing. 
  3. Ability to facilitate simulation learning for program requirements. 
  4. Knowledge in statistical processes associated with exam item development, validity, and analysis. 
  5. Ability to perform all clinical and lab duties. 
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, other employees, and the public. 
  7. The ability to project a professional and congenial demeanor. 
  8. The ability to work-day, evening, and/or weekend hours dictated by the Nursing instructional schedule. 
  9. Performance demonstrates effectiveness in assigned area(s) of responsibility. (ACEN 2017). 
  10. Teaching experience in an Associate Degree Nursing program or higher level of nursing education.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Simulation immersion training and certification from a nationally recognized simulation training institute/agency.
  2. Experience in constructing online courses.

  6. Knowledge and experience with curriculum and new program development.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to multi-task.
  9. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and manage complicated tasks.
  10. Ability to use email and Microsoft Word proficiently.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Ability to communicate well using the English language.
  2. Ability to lift, move, or transport independently instructional equipment specific to the program.
  3. Ability to work flexible hours.
  4. Ability to demonstrate and provide instruction while working on equipment.
  5. Ability to operate and demonstrate all equipment integral to the curriculum.
  6. Ability to lift, move, or transport independently up to 30 lbs.
