Job Description: Accounts & Taxation Manager
Job Title: Accounts & Taxation Manager
Experience: 6–10 years
Qualification: Inter CA / M.Com / MBA Finance or equivalent qualification
Role Overview
The Accounts & Taxation Manager will be responsible for managing the organization’s accounting operations, finalization of books of accounts, statutory compliance, direct taxation (DT), indirect taxation (IDT), and financial reporting. The role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage and guide the accounts team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Finalization of Books of Accounts
- Manage end-to-end accounting operations and ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of books of accounts.
- Prepare and review financial statements, including Profit & Loss Account, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts, customer accounts, vendor accounts, inventory, fixed assets, advances, and other ledger balances.
- Review provisions, accruals, depreciation, prepaid expenses, and other year-end accounting entries.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting discrepancies and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and company accounting policies.
2. Direct Taxation (DT)
- Manage income tax-related compliances, including advance tax, TDS, TCS, tax payments, and return filings.
- Review TDS deductions, challan payments, quarterly TDS returns, and issuance of TDS certificates.
- Coordinate with tax consultants for income tax assessments, notices, scrutiny cases, appeals, and other tax-related matters.
- Ensure timely submission of required information and documents for income tax audits.
- Monitor changes in direct tax laws and assess their impact on the organization.
- Support tax planning initiatives and ensure optimum tax compliance.
3. Indirect Taxation (IDT)
- Manage GST compliance, including GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, GSTR-9C, reconciliation statements, and annual returns.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of GST input tax credit with GSTR-2B and vendor records.
- Review GST workings, tax payments, e-way bills, e-invoices, debit notes, credit notes, and other statutory documents.
- Coordinate with internal teams and vendors for resolution of GST mismatches and compliance issues.
- Handle GST notices, departmental queries, audits, assessments, and reconciliations in coordination with external consultants.
- Keep updated with amendments in GST laws and ensure implementation across business operations.
4. MIS and Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly MIS, financial reports, cash flow statements, working capital reports, ageing reports, and management dashboards.
- Analyse financial performance, expenses, receivables, payables, and cash flow trends.
- Provide timely financial insights and reports to management for decision-making.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities.
5. Team Leadership and Process Improvement
- Lead, guide, and mentor the accounts and taxation team.
- Allocate work, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely completion of accounting and compliance activities.
- Conduct regular reviews of team performance and provide training where required.
- Strengthen internal controls, accounting processes, and compliance systems.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, cost control, and risk reduction.
- Coordinate effectively with sales, purchase, operations, HR, logistics, and management teams.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and finalization of books of accounts.
- Hands-on exposure to Direct Taxation and Indirect Taxation, including Income Tax, TDS, TCS, and GST.
- Experience in handling statutory audits, tax audits, internal audits, and financial reconciliations.
- Strong leadership, team management, delegation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Proficiency in Tally ERP, ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and accounting software.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in accounts, taxation, audit, and financial reporting.
- Experience in manufacturing or trading organizations will be preferred.
- Prior experience in leading an accounts team is essential.
- Ability to independently manage accounting finalization, taxation compliance, and management reporting.
