About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Accountant with strong UK accounting knowledge and hands-on Xero experience to support our growing operations.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning the numbers end-to-end — from day-to-day bookkeeping to management reporting and VAT compliance. You will work closely with the Director and play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting across a multi-property portfolio. Attention to detail, accountability, and confidence with UK accounting standards are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero, ensuring all income and expenses are correctly coded and allocated across multiple properties and business streams
- Perform regular bank, credit card, and payment gateway reconciliations, ensuring balances match and discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly
- Manage month-end and quarter-end closing processes, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments
- Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts, including profit & loss statements, cash flow summaries, and variance analysis for the Director
- Oversee VAT accounting and compliance in line with UK VAT regulations, including:
- Correct VAT treatment for different income types
- Preparation and review of VAT returns
- Ensuring accurate VAT reporting within Xero
- Track and reconcile income from multiple sources (OTAs, direct bookings, councils, corporates, and care providers)
- Monitor property-level financial performance, supporting reporting and analysis on a per-property basis where required
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and forecasting, highlighting potential risks or shortfalls in advance
- Support budget preparation and financial planning, including ongoing variance tracking against actuals
- Liaise with external accountants, advisors, and internal stakeholders to support compliance, audits, and financial reviews
- Maintain clear and well-organised financial documentation and records for review and audit purposes
- Identify inefficiencies or errors in financial processes and proactively suggest improvements
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis, reports, and insights to support operational and strategic decision-making
Ideal Candidate Profile
- A qualified or experienced UK Accountant / Bookkeeper with hands-on experience working on UK-based companies
- An advanced Xero user who is confident handling end-to-end bookkeeping, reconciliations, and management accounts independently
- Strong practical knowledge of UK VAT rules, HMRC compliance, and VAT returns within Xero
- Experience preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts, including P&L and cash flow reports
- Comfortable managing multiple properties, income streams, and high transaction volumes
- Detail-oriented, organised, and highly accurate with financial data
- Proactive and solution-focused, able to identify issues and suggest improvements
- Confident working remotely in UK business hours and communicating clearly with stakeholders
- Prior experience in property, serviced accommodation, hospitality, or short-term rentals is a strong advantage
- Looking for a long-term role with a growing UK business and open to scaling responsibilities over time
