Academic Coordinator – Secondary School
Short summary
The Academic Coordinator (Secondary) leads curriculum planning, teacher development, assessment oversight, and student academic interventions for Grades 6–12 to ensure high-quality teaching and measurable learning outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Curriculum & Planning: Lead curriculum mapping, ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across grades and subjects, update syllabi and scope-and-sequence documents, and oversee yearly academic calendar and term-wise planning.
Instructional Leadership: Observe lessons, provide instructional coaching to teachers, run peer-observation cycles, model best-practice lessons, and support subject heads in designing formative and summative assessments.
Assessment & Data: Design or standardise diagnostic, formative, and terminal assessments; analyse student performance data; produce termly academic reports; and recommend remedial or enrichment pathways.
Teacher Development: Identify PD needs, design and deliver training workshops, oversee induction for new teachers, and maintain professional growth records.
Student Support: Coordinate interventions for underperforming students (remedial groups, mentorships), liaise with counsellors and parents, and maintain at-risk student logs and follow-ups.
Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure assessment and reporting meet board/state standards, maintain academic records, and support inspections, audits, and accreditation processes.
Collaboration & Communication: Work with the principal, heads of department, and admin teams on academic policies; communicate academic expectations to parents; and coordinate academic events (exhibitions, competitions, and orientations).
Administrative Tasks: Maintain lesson-plan submissions, supervise timetable alignment, monitor gradebook entries, and prepare periodic academic progress dashboards for leadership.
Qualifications & experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant subject; a master's degree or B.Ed. is preferred.
- Experience: 2–4 years' teaching experience plus 1–3 years in a coordination or leadership role in a secondary school (CBSE/ICSE/state or international boards as applicable).
- Skills: Strong curriculum design and assessment literacy, data-driven decision-making, coaching and mentoring skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and familiarity with digital LMS/gradebook systems.
- Other: Ability to work with diverse teams, strong organisational skills, and a student-centred mindset.
