About the role

About A2Z Sync

A2Z Sync is building the operating system for U.S. automotive retail — a market measured in trillions, still operating on disconnected, decades-old systems. We replace that friction with the velocity of a single platform, integrating digital insights with in-store operations to deliver transparent transactions for car buyers and increased profitability for dealers.

We are a Series B, AI-native SaaS company experiencing tremendous growth. We are transitioning from a traditional SaaS company into an AI-native one — and we are doing it from Denver with a small, sharp team that ships fast and plays hard. This role sits in our Denver office and requires 2-3 days per week in-office.

Why This Role Exists

Our finance function needs to grow up with the business. We are moving from early-stage processes to a modern, audit-ready close — and this seat is the linchpin.

We are hiring a Senior Accountant to partner closely with the Controller during a period of rapid growth. This is an execution-focused role: you will own the day-to-day rhythm of the close, run reconciliations independently, and bring discipline to core accounting workflows. You will free the Controller to focus on technical accounting, audit, equity, tax, and strategic finance while you keep the financial engine running cleanly and on time.

This is a high-ownership seat for someone who wants real responsibility, exposure to the full stack of accounting at a Series B SaaS company, and a clear path to grow as the team scales.

What You'll Own

Month-End Close & General Ledger

  • Run the close: Drive the monthly close checklist to completion on time. Prepare and post recurring, accrual, and adjusting journal entries across cash, prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, payroll, and intercompany.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts: Own timely reconciliation of bank accounts, credit cards, AR, AP, accrued liabilities, and deferred revenue. Investigate and clear reconciling items without prompting.
  • Flux analysis: Prepare month-over-month and budget-to-actual variance analyses for key P&L and balance sheet accounts; draft commentary for the Controller's review.

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

  • Bill processing: Review, code, and process vendor bills in Ramp with proper GL coding and approval routing.
  • Payment runs: Prepare weekly ACH, wire, and check batches with supporting documentation for Controller authorization.
  • Vendor master & 1099s: Maintain vendor records, ensure W-9s are on file, and support annual 1099 reporting.

Accounts Receivable & Revenue Support

  • Customer invoicing: Generate and distribute invoices per contract terms; track billing milestones and ensure timely issuance.
  • Collections: Monitor AR aging, follow up on past-due balances, and escalate to the Controller as needed.
  • Deferred revenue schedules: Maintain supporting schedules for deferred revenue and revenue recognition under the Controller's direction.

Payroll, Benefits, Fixed Assets & Prepaids

  • Payroll reconciliation: Reconcile payroll registers to the GL each pay period and ensure proper allocation across departments.
  • Accruals: Calculate and book accruals for PTO, bonuses, commissions, and benefits liabilities.
  • Schedules: Maintain the fixed asset register, depreciation/amortization entries, and prepaid expense schedules.

Tax, Audit & Compliance Support

  • Sales & use tax: Compile data, prepare workpapers, and assist with timely filings across multiple states.
  • Audit prep: Prepare PBC schedules and supporting documentation; respond to auditor inquiries as directed.
  • Year-end filings: Assist with 1099s, W-2 reconciliation support, and property tax filings.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Workpapers: Produce clean, well-tied-out workpapers for every entry, reconciliation, and analysis.
  • SOPs: Document accounting procedures as you perform them, contributing to the team's standard operating procedures.

Our Finance Stack

We run a deliberately modern, AI-native finance stack — not because it is trendy, but because it lets us scale G&A faster than headcount.

  • ERP & Close Management: Rillet — AI-native general ledger, not legacy NetSuite or QuickBooks.
  • AP & Expense: Ramp — AI-driven coding, approval routing, and card controls.
  • Billing & Revenue: Rillet (with HubSpot integration for contract data).
  • Payroll & HRIS: BambooHR.
  • CRM: HubSpot.
  • Equity & Cap Table: Carta.
  • Collaboration: Slack, Google Workspace.
  • AI: Claude (Anthropic) embedded in our daily workflow.

If you have worked on a stack like this, you will move fast here. If you have not, you will learn one of the best modern finance stacks in market.

How You'll Use AI

This is not a "we are AI-curious" company. We use Claude every day, and we expect you to as well. Concrete examples for this role:

  • Drafting flux commentary from variance data.
  • Generating first-pass reconciliation narratives and exception summaries.
  • Parsing vendor contracts for revenue recognition triggers and key terms.
  • Building SOP documentation from screen recordings of you doing the work.
  • Summarizing transaction batches for review.
  • Auto-categorizing edge-case GL coding decisions with human-in-the-loop review.

You will not be replaced by AI. You will be the accountant who replaces three accountants' worth of manual work with it.
