Operations Engineer to join our
IT team, based in A&O Shearman's New York Office.
Information Technology team - New YorkThe core of the global technology department’s mission is to provide stable, reliable, and secure platforms and services to our partners, staff and clients and fulfil our regulatory obligations across 30+ countries. To ensure that a consistent and standardised IT service is delivered to all offices, IT is managed and led as a global function, enabling all offices to benefit from complete systems integration and economies of scale. We have around 400 technologists based predominantly in the UK, Singapore and increasingly in the US.
What you will do The Operations Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and evolving day‑to‑day IT operations while driving the adoption of modern, secure, and scalable technologies that enhance legal workflows, attorney productivity, and client service. This role combines operational leadership with forward‑looking technology enablement, ensuring the firm’s core platforms remain highly available, resilient, compliant, and continuously improving.
The Operations Engineering Manager supports and executes the firm’s IT and innovation strategy, providing leadership across infrastructure operations, endpoint management, service management, incident response, and user adoption, while upholding the confidentiality, regulatory, and data protection obligations critical to the legal industry.
Responsibilities;
Ensure operational stability across a 24/7 global environment, responding effectively to incidents with clear communication, sound judgment, and urgency.
Lead and oversee the day to day operation, availability, performance, and reliability of core legal and business systems, including document management, case management, email, and collaboration platforms.
Manage technology pilots and proofs of concept, assessing value, risk, and return on investment prior to broader adoption.

Oversee modern device lifecycle management, including provisioning patching, updates, encryption, compliance enforcement, and secure decommissioning.
Serve as a senior operational liaison between IT teams, attorneys, business services, and third‑party vendors to ensure solutions meet user needs and firm standards.
Enforce cybersecurity, data privacy, and regulatory requirements to meet the Firms Information Security teams needs in line with legal industry standards, including confidentiality obligations, eDiscovery considerations, and client data protection standards.
Develop and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge bases to support service continuity, change management, and incident response.
What you will have
Strong working knowledge of enterprise systems, cloud platforms, collaboration tools, and modern endpoint management solutions.
Hands‑on experience with modern device management (e.g., Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, conditional access, security baselines).

The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and other job-related factors permitted by law. This role is open to our New York office. For individuals assigned to or hired for this opportunity in New York, the estimated annualized base salary range for this position is $177,000 - $233,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and other job-related factors permitted by law.
