Reports to: Head Club Coach / Youth Program Manager
Responsibilities
Coaching & Program Delivery
- Assist lead coaches in executing daily lesson plans, games, and drills for assigned youth groups
- Provide direct, age-appropriate instruction on climbing technique, movement, and risk management.
- Keep athletes engaged, motivated, and having fun throughout every session
- Adapt activities on the fly to meet the energy level and needs of your group
- Facilitate team-building exercises, icebreakers, and group games as directed
Safety & Risk Management
- Actively supervise participants at all times, maintaining sight lines across your assigned area
- Enforce gym rules, harness checks, and belay protocols consistently and without exception
- Respond calmly and effectively to injuries, behavioral issues, or emergencies
- Complete pre- and post-shift equipment checks as assigned
Guest & Parent Experience
- Greet families warmly and maintain a professional, approachable presence
- Communicate basic program updates and class notes to parents when requested
- Model excellent sportsmanship, encouragement, and positive language at all times
Facility & Operations
- Complete assigned pre- and post-shift duties including equipment checks and space reset
- Treat the facility with care — maintain cleanliness and report any equipment concerns immediately
- Arrive on time and prepared for every shift
Results
- Youth participants leave each session feeling challenged, and excited to return
- Risk management protocols are followed without prompting, every session
- Parents consistently report positive experiences and trust in our staff
- You demonstrate growth in coaching confidence, technique knowledge, and athlete management over your first year
Requirements
You Must Have
- Minimum 16 years of age
- 1+ year of climbing experience; ability to climb V2 or equivalent
- Current SafeSport certification (or ability to obtain before first shift)
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain before first shift)
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with youth of all ages and abilities
- Patience, dependability, and the ability to maintain composure in high-energy environments
- Positive attitude and willingness to take direction from senior coaches
Preferred (Not Required)
- Prior experience coaching, teaching, or leading youth programs
- Familiarity with USA Climbing youth program structures
- Completion of any introductory coaching module (Sport Canada, USAC, or equivalent)
Compensation & Benefits
Pay: $13+/hr, commensurate with experience. Eligible for annual merit review.
