3D Modeler – 3D Printing & Production

About the Role
3Dome Labs is looking for a 3D Modeler with strong experience in creating models for 3D printing, prototyping and real-world production.
This is not a VFX, animation, gaming, architectural visualization or rendering-only role. We are looking for someone who can create clean, detailed and production-ready 3D models that can actually be printed, assembled, finished and used in the real world.
The ideal candidate should understand how a 3D model behaves when it moves from software to production — including scale, wall thickness, print orientation, supports, surface quality, part separation, assembly, material limits and finishing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Create detailed 3D models for physical products, objects, parts, props, prototypes and production pieces.
* Prepare models specifically for 3D printing and real-world production.
* Convert sketches, references, concepts or product ideas into printable 3D models.
* Optimise models for printability, strength, scale, finishing and assembly.
* Split models into parts where required for printing, painting, finishing or fitting.
* Check and fix model issues such as non-manifold geometry, thin walls, open surfaces, bad topology or scale problems.
* Work with 3D printing and production teams to improve files based on test prints and feedback.
* Create files suitable for prototyping, batch production or client-ready physical output.
* Maintain clean, organised source files and export-ready formats such as STL, OBJ, STEP or 3MF.
* Support product iterations from first concept to final production-ready model.
Required Skills
* Strong 3D modelling skills for physical products and 3D printing.
* Practical experience preparing models for 3D printing or production.
* Understanding of printability, wall thickness, supports, scale, tolerances and material limitations.
* Ability to create clean, watertight and production-ready models.
* Experience with software such as Blender, ZBrush, Fusion 360, Rhino, SolidWorks, Maya, 3ds Max or similar.
* Ability to model from references, sketches or concept images.
* Good understanding of surface detailing, part separation and finishing requirements.
* Ability to troubleshoot 3D model issues before printing.
* Portfolio showing 3D printed, prototyped or physically produced work.
Good to Have
* Hands-on experience with FDM, SLA, SLS or resin 3D printing.
* Experience working with product prototypes, collectibles, miniatures, props, toys, lifestyle products, industrial objects or display pieces.
* Understanding of post-processing such as sanding, painting, coating, polishing or assembly.
* Ability to create both organic and hard-surface models.
* Experience preparing files for small-batch production.
* Basic rendering skills for presentation are welcome, but not the main requirement.
Not the Right Fit If
This role may not be suitable if your experience is mainly in:
* VFX models
* Animation assets
* Game assets
* Architectural visualization
* Product renders only
* Concept models that are not meant to be physically produced
* Digital-only designs with no understanding of 3D printing or production
We are specifically looking for someone who can create models that can move from screen to print to finished product.
Portfolio Requirement
Applicants must share a portfolio with examples of work created for 3D printing, prototyping or physical production.
Your portfolio should ideally show:
* Final 3D models
* Printed or produced outputs
* Prototypes
* Product parts or objects
* Before/after iterations
* STL/OBJ/STEP-ready work
* Any examples of assembly, finishing or production use
Applications without relevant production or 3D-printing-based portfolio work may not be shortlisted.

We are looking for someone who understands that a good 3D model is not just something that looks nice on screen.
It should be printable, practical, clean, strong and ready for real-world use.
You should be comfortable asking:
* Can this be 3D printed properly?
* Will this part break?
* Is the wall thickness enough?
* Does this need to be split into parts?
* Will the details survive printing?
* Can this be sanded, painted or assembled?
* Is this file actually production-ready?
