National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways & Coasts (NTCPWC) is the technology arm of the Ministry of Shipping in India, providing innovative and indigenous solutions for the port and maritime sector. Based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, NTCPWC focuses on applied research, education, and technology transfer to address industry challenges. Its mission includes offering scientific support to ports, Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), and other stakeholders while promoting advancements in maritime technology. Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a VTS Operator - 2nd Mate, located at Chennai Port, Tamil Nadu. The VTS Operator will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe navigation of vessels within port limits. Key responsibilities include monitoring vessel movements using radar, radio communications, and electronic chart display systems. The role involves coordinating with shipmasters, providing navigational assistance, enforcing maritime regulations, and responding promptly to emergencies. The operator will also prepare regular reports and maintain accurate records of port operations.

Qualifications
- Certificate of Competency (COC) – Second Mate (FG) (Mandatory)
- Valid STCW Certification
- GMDSS Operator Certificate
- Minimum 12–24 months sea experience as Deck Officer / Junior Officer
- Strong knowledge of navigation systems (ECDIS, Radar, AIS) and COLREGS
- Experience in voyage planning, chart corrections, and bridge watchkeeping
- Familiarity with SOLAS, MARPOL, and IMO regulations
- Ability to work in dynamic environments including onboard vessels and port operations
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
