What You’ll Do:

As the selected UI/UX Developer, you’ll work on the design and development of a user-friendly, accessible, and visually appealing application. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in both user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) development, with a focus on creating seamless, intuitive experiences for users. You will work closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure that the application meets the needs of local state agencies and their users, adhering to state regulations and accessibility standards.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

User Research: Conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to gather insights into the needs, preferences, and pain points of the end users of the state application.

Personas and Journey Mapping: Develop user personas and map user journeys to identify key touchpoints and improve the overall user experience of the application.

Wireframes and Prototypes: Create low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to communicate design concepts effectively. Use tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD to deliver interactive prototypes and mockups for stakeholders and developers.

Usability Testing: Design and conduct usability testing sessions, collect feedback, and iterate on designs based on user feedback to improve application usability.

Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, business analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that designs meet business objectives and technical feasibility.

Front-End Development: Implement pixel-perfect UI designs using modern front-end technologies like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Leverage front-end frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js to build responsive, interactive, and accessible user interfaces.

Accessibility Compliance: Ensure that UI designs and implementations are fully compliant with WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and local government accessibility standards. Create designs and code that are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.

Responsive Design: Develop responsive web applications that work seamlessly across various devices, browsers, and screen sizes. Optimize designs to ensure usability and a consistent experience across platforms (desktop, tablet, mobile).

Component Libraries: Develop reusable UI components and front-end libraries to promote consistency across the application and streamline development.

Cross-Browser Compatibility: Ensure consistent look and feel across different web browsers and platforms. Troubleshoot and resolve browser-specific issues and bugs.

Collaboration with Developers: Work closely with back-end developers, DevOps teams, and other developers to ensure that the front-end code integrates smoothly with back-end services and APIs.

Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business users, project managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into intuitive user interfaces that meet user needs and business goals.

Agile Workflow: Participate in Agile activities (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and collaborate in cross-functional Scrum teams. Contribute to the development and iterative improvement of the product.

Design Systems and Guidelines: Contribute to or develop and maintain a design system to ensure consistency across the application, defining colors, typography, iconography, and other UI elements.

Optimize Performance: Optimize front-end code for maximum performance and speed, ensuring that the application runs efficiently across various devices and browsers.

What You’ll Need:

Experience: 5+ years of experience as a UX/UI Developer, with a proven track record of designing and developing web applications, preferably for government or public sector projects.

UI/UX Design Skills: Strong proficiency in UX design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or InVision for creating wireframes, prototypes, and mockups.

Front-End Development Skills: Solid experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, Angular) for building responsive and interactive user interfaces.

Accessibility Knowledge: Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and experience designing and developing accessible websites and applications. Ability to implement accessibility best practices in design and development.

Responsive Design: Experience in creating responsive, mobile-first web applications that work seamlessly across various devices and screen sizes.

Cross-Browser Compatibility: Ability to ensure consistent design implementation across all browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.) and troubleshoot browser-specific issues.

Version Control: Familiarity with version control systems like Git and experience working in collaborative development environments.

User-Centered Design: Experience in conducting user research, usability testing, and gathering feedback to improve user interfaces and overall user experience.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present design concepts and interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to design and develop creative solutions to complex user experience challenges.

Government Experience: Experience working on local or state government applications is a plus, with an understanding of government regulations and compliance standards.
