We are building Umang Democratic School, a community-rooted democratic school where children learn through curiosity, play, relationships, participation and meaningful experiences—not through fear, compliance or rote learning.
Our new campus in Rakshera, Haryana begins with Early Years and Primary education, but our vision is much larger.
Over the coming years, the school will grow one grade every year into a complete K–12 democratic school, creating a lifelong learning journey where children grow into curious learners, compassionate human beings, confident leaders and responsible citizens.
We're looking for someone who wants to help build that journey from the very beginning.
This is not a conventional teaching job.
It is a unique opportunity to build curriculum, mentor educators, shape school culture, design learning systems, teach children, and create an Early Years programme that can become a model for community-rooted education across rural India.

About Umang
For the past 14 years, Umang has been reimagining what education can look like in rural India.
Our journey began in 2012 with Umang Democratic School—Haryana's first community-led democratic school—where children, educators and families learn together through participation, reflection and meaningful action.
Today, Umang works across three learning campuses, offering Early Years, Pre-Primary and Primary education (up to Grade 2) while serving children and families through community-rooted learning initiatives.
We are now building our flagship campus in Rakshera, Haryana, which will grow into a full K–12 democratic school, adding one grade every year while preserving the philosophy, culture and quality that define Umang.

About the Role
Early childhood lays the foundation for everything that follows.
As the Lead Educator & Early Years Programme Lead, you will help build Umang's Early Years programme while laying the academic foundations for our future K–12 school.
You will work closely with the Founder and leadership team to:
- Design curriculum
- Build joyful learning environments
- Mentor and coach educators
- Strengthen classroom practice
- Build systems for quality
- Partner with families
- Teach children
- Shape the culture of the school
This is a leadership role grounded in classroom practice.
We believe the best instructional leaders continue to teach. Classroom practice keeps leadership connected to children, strengthens coaching, and ensures every academic decision is rooted in real learning experiences.
What You'll Do
1. Build & Strengthen the Early Years Programme
- Design and continuously improve Umang's Early Years curriculum.
- Create thematic, inquiry-based and play-centred learning experiences.
- Develop annual, monthly and weekly curriculum plans.
- Design inspiring learning environments.
- Build systems that ensure consistency across learning campuses.
- Develop observation, documentation and assessment frameworks.
- Create educator guides and learning resources.
2. Lead Teaching & Learning
- Mentor educators through regular classroom observations.
- Coach teachers using reflective feedback.
- Support lesson planning and classroom facilitation.
- Build reflective practice within the teaching team.
- Strengthen instructional quality across all classrooms.
- Introduce research-informed practices in child development.
3. Teach, Model & Inspire
You will also spend dedicated time teaching children.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach regular classroom sessions.
- Demonstrate joyful, inquiry-based and child-centred teaching.
- Model high-quality classroom practice for educators.
- Experiment with innovative learning experiences.
- Use classroom practice to continuously improve curriculum and pedagogy.
4. Curriculum, Documentation & Assessment
- Design developmentally appropriate assessment systems.
- Create child portfolios and documentation practices.
- Ensure curriculum aligns with the National Curriculum Framework while remaining rooted in Umang's philosophy.
- Build activity banks, educator manuals and curriculum resources.
5. Family & Community Partnerships
- Build meaningful relationships with parents.
- Conduct parent orientations and workshops.
- Design home-learning experiences.
- Work closely with communities to ensure learning remains locally relevant.
- Encourage families to become active partners in children's learning.
6. Build Systems for Quality & Growth
As Umang expands from Early Years to K–12, you will help build systems that ensure quality grows with scale.
This includes:
- Curriculum architecture
- Academic standards
- Teacher onboarding
- Professional development
- Classroom observation systems
- Assessment frameworks
- Continuous improvement processes
Who We're Looking For
We're looking less for the perfect résumé and more for the right educator.
Essential
- 2–3 years of experience in Early Childhood Education.
- Strong understanding of child development (ages 2–6).
- Experience designing curriculum or learning experiences.
- Experience mentoring educators.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Hindi.
- Strong organisational and project management abilities.
- Ability to balance creativity with execution.
- A builder's mindset with a passion for continuous learning.
